This is a lovely and fine pair of RARE Antique Old Early California Landscape Paintings (2), watercolor on paper, by early 20th century California Impressionist painter, Stanley Louis Rubens b. These artworks depict lovely and delicately rendered California landscape scenes. The painting on the left displays a colorful forested scene at sunset, with the warm orange glow of the setting sun illuminating the distant sky. In the foreground, a winding creek flows across the scene. The painting on the right displays a masterful landscape scene, with a placid lake nearby and an azure sky above. Both of these artworks are signed: S. Rubens in the lower right corners. These artworks are undated, but very likely date to the mid – late 1910’s, after the artist had settled in Los Angeles in 1914. He would later go on to live in San Francisco, where he gave up being a painter and worked as an elevator operator. There is very little biographical information on this artist, but perhaps you know more about him or his work? Approximately 9 x 17 inches including frame. Actual artworks are approximately 6 x 14 inches. Just out of a local smoke free house is this nice pair of Rare Craftsman Studios Arts and Crafts bookends. The bookends have a handcrafted, hammered, and etched woodland landscape design. The bookends have their original rich dark copper patina. They are unmarked but are guaranteed to be by the Craftsman Studios as we found 2 other signed examples and reportedly some of their work was unmarked. They measure about 5 7/8 inches high and about 6 inches wide. The bookends are in good to very good condition with some slight wear, a scratch on the back of one, and the normal wear on the bottoms. A very nice Heintz polychromed landscape vase in excellent condition with no damage or repairs, circa 1905. It measures 7 1/2″ high x 2 1/2″ diameter. D E S C R I P T I O N. RARE ANTIQUE EARLY DUTCH DELFT HAND PAINTED BLUE WHITE PORCELAIN LANDSCAPE BOWL. A vintage 18th century. Blue and white delft porcelain. Delft bowl, the outer body hand painted with a scene of pagoda temple and European house, garden and landscape, with lake boat to the foreground, the rear of the bowl with an island within the lake, above which flying birds, the interior rim with flower and arching pattern. The over-all condition of this vintage item is in excellent condition, Lite natural wear, a little chip and cracks on the interior – otherwise in fine form. Please see a large photos. Delft, first produced in the Dutch city of Delft, was created in response to Chinese porcelains. These earthenwares were glazed with tin, which produced a white surface on which artists could paint beautiful scenes and designs. 4 3/4 inches high with a diameter of 5 inches at the widest. This is a stunningly beautiful RARE Antique Early California Plein Air Desert Landscape Oil Painting on canvas, by early California Impressionist painter Armin Heying 1895 – 1972. This work depicts a gorgeous desert landscape scene, likely in the low deserts of Southern California, such as Palm Springs or the Coachella Valley. Fluffy white clouds, a vermillion blue sky and delicately painted mountains below accentuate this wonderful scene. Signed and dated: “Armin Heying 1956″ in the lower right corner. Approximately 30 x 34 1/2 inches including frame. Actual artwork is approximately 25 x 29 3/4 inches. Heying left his job on the railroad in Loutre, MO in the 1920s and settled in Anaheim, CA. He died there on Oct. An oil painter, his rare canvases include desert landscapes, and religious genre. Armin Heying was born in Missouri and worked on the railroad there. In the 1920s he moved to Anaheim, California. He was an accomplished painter, apparently self-taught, and always worked other jobs. His painting was done on the side. As he got older, he began giving art lessons. On the Orange County historical blogspot, a neighbor remembers him fondly, living on South Claudina Street in Anaheim, and painting in a studio behind his garage. An old newspaper article from 1957 describes how he donated 2 paintings to the Presbyterian Church on Broadway. The titles were “Gethsemane” and Resurrection.
