Rare Early 2/3 Step (Small Shade) Herbert Terry 1227 Anglepoise Lamp in Gold

Purveyors of wonderful things. Hello and welcome to the sale of this superb anglepoise lamp. Made by the British company Herbert Terry & Sons in 1938 this lamp is the sought after pre-war example with a smaller perforated shade, taller fork, mid-section tensioner and earth disc. This particular example comes in it original gold painted finish and has its Crabtree bakelite bulb holder. It has been stripped, cleaned and rewired with three meters of new fabric cable, that is correctly earthed to the frame (as per originals) and new felt to the base. If your interested in Herbert Terry lamps you will know this is a good example of a rare lamp (they made less of these than the earlier 3 step version). Rare Early White Glass Original Art Deco Airplane Desk Lamp Patent Pending

This is an original Aviation Art Deco DC3 Airplane Lamp designed by Chicago Designer, Ray A. Schober, in the late 30’s. And made by Premium Products MFG. The DC3 maiden flight was Dec17,1935. It has chrome plated metal base, wings, propellers, elevator, and rudder. It has a frosted white glass fuselage with silver painted stripes and windows. The light switch as in the tail and the light and switch are working. This was a very early piece with U S PAT PENDING molded into the glass under the fuselage. The patent which was later issued will be 110196 and they also later began making this in cobalt blue glass. Measurements are approximately 12″ L x 13.25″ W x 8 H. The glass shade is 9.50 L. The reproduction is marked “Saspirilla Deco Designs” both molded in the glass and stamped in the metal under the base. Rare Early 3 Step Herbert Terry 1227 Anglepoise Lamp Original Green & Chrome

Purveyors of wonderful things. Hello and welcome to the sale of this rare and sought after Anglepoise lamp. Made by Herbert Terry & Sons of Redditch in the early 1930’s this is the first example of the classic 1227 desk lamp and is identified by its three step base and small shade (amongst other things but I won’t bore you with the details). This particular example is best described as a’survivor’ and was in a pretty poor condition prior to restoration. The shade and base come in their original green crinkle paint and have been cleaned and given a light coating of wax to help preserve the patina. The paintwork isn’t too bad, but expect surface rust and chips to the paint. The arms were chromed but much of this had come away. Any loose chrome was removed and the bare steel has been burnished then waxed. This finish gives a nice patina and doesn’t look over restored. All the springs, tensioners, bars and bolts are present and correct and have been lightly cleaned and replaced. A original Crabtree bakelite has been sourced and fitted with three meters of new good quality fabric cable, that is correctly earthed to the frame as per the original wiring and fitted with a new 3A plug. Lastly some new green felt has been applied to the base. The lamp holds its position well, however the shade rotating left and right is a little stiff as is the fork in the base. Neither affects its everyday use and isn’t bad for a lamp thats almost 90 years old! If you’re looking for a lamp of this type be careful, many have been made up from later lamps, repainted or missing original parts, springs etc. A lot of info in available on the internet and well worth a read. 1940s Hadrill Horstmann Floor Standing Counterweight Lamp Rare Early Prototype

Extremely rare Hadrill Horstmann counterweight lamp. I know of only one other in existence which is in a private collection. This lamp predates the’Roller’ design with a large suspended weight. The weight is sprung on its shaft. I believe it was a prototype which was superceded by the roller. Interestingly the limbs are not stamped with branding. I think at this stage decal labels were used but would have been on magnifier cover. No repainting on top half it’s all completely original scuffs and all. Though actually it’s in remarkably good condition for its age (1940s). It has been disassembled, thoroughly cleaned and polished. Every but and washer is present and original including all the knurled nuts. Corners of shade have small bolted reinforcements. Very subtle but may not be original. Stand has been repainted. It connects to lamp via a solid steel shaft which protrudes about 4 inches from base and exactly fits the middle tube. Side brackets can be adjusted. There are four independent parts so the current arrangement is just how I thought they looked tidy. Not sure how these were originally used. All rewired with new braided flex. Vintage bulb holder which is properly earthed and is switched. I’ll do my best to wrap her up but I can’t box it. My estimate is it weighs around 20 kilos.
