An antique Japanese/ Korean red lacquered sewing box with three chestnut wood drawers front. All original lacquer finish and hand forged iron hardware handles. With hardened wood nails. Rare Early 1900 Antique Korean Hand Carved HaiTai Tiger Herbal Medicine Grinder. This medicine grinder is very heavy at just under 16LBS and looks to be used. Kept in storage for over 50 years. Age: 1st quarter of 1900. Provenance: Private collection from South Korea, brought with us in 1980. This item was stored in a storage since early 1980 so they are not always in clean. It’s been collecting dust but I did clean up as much as possible without damaging the item. He was in Korea from the late1800s until about 1920, according to his grandson, Arthur Jr. I have his letter envelope sent to Choson, pyungyang from US, but I cannot find it now. Whittemore, a Presbyterian missionary in Seoncheon, North Pyong-an Province , met with Terauchi on 23 January 1912. They told him that it was inconceivable that the arrested Koreans, who were among the most respected people in Korean society, should have legitimately fallen under suspicion.
