Stylized expressive features -deep wrinkles, strong jaw, and open mouth designed to hold a shoe brush, clothes brush, or whisk broom in the neck. Possible Dutch/German origin -while similar to Black Forest carvings, the. Marking hints at a potential Dutch workshop link. Very Rare Pair Of Original Early 20th Century Black Forest Wood Bear Armchairs

Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale. Stunning and exceptionally rare pair of original hand carved in Black Forest wood very large Bear armchairs. A collectable and signature pair of art furniture armchairs. This pair are exceptional, they date to the early 20. Century circa 1920, they are hand carved from solid slabs of black forest wood timber. Black forest wood gets its name from the darkness of the timber, this is due to the trees being naturally grown very closely, they are very tall meaning no light reaches the timber giving it this wonderful colour. This pair came to me in need of some sympathetic conservation, they had been coated is some kind of thick sticky dark wax which hid the natural colour and timber patina, we have painstakingly removed this substance to reveal the natural colour of the wood and grain. We have then very lightly wax sealed, and hand polished them from top to bottom, the finished result is pretty much the best-looking pair of these chairs you will ever find. They have old repairs here and there, nothing you would not expect from 100+ year old chairs that are this large and heavy. There are no losses or structural issues whatsoever they are a very fine example. Seat height:- 43cm. In the 1800s the wood carving industry of Switzerland started in the town of Brienz. By the end of the 1800s it had become the driving force for this industry. Swiss wood carvers became world renown and featured at many international exhibitions. Here is a shortlist of the major exhibitions Black Forest Carvings were spotlighted. Great Exhibition, London (1851). Centennial Exhibition, Philadelphia (1876). Chicago Worlds Fair, Chicago (1893). Exposition Universelle, Paris (1900). Rare Early Antique German 2 Weight Black Forest Wall Clock

This listing is for an early antique Black Forest wall clock. This clock is very unusual, as it features a roof like top, ornately carved lower panel with a carving of a man, carved dial, ornate hands, and wooden movement. The clock is missing its weights. We took photos with weights from an American ogee clock attached in order to show where the chains are. The ogee weights are not included. There are remnants of a makers label on the back. It looks like it says KHS with the emblem of an animal of sorts. This clock measures 48 x 15 x 8 inches. Its a beautiful pieces that we unfortunately do not know a whole lot about. There is a piece of trim missing on the upper right side and it appears that there was once a top ornament or finial of sorts that is missing (see photos). This item is part of an inherited estate. ANTIQUE BLACK FOREST RARE LEAF MOTIF CUCKOO CLOCK FROM THE EARLY 1900’S. This clock is a stunning large clock with a rare leaf motif truly a must have for one’s collection. This is a American Black Forest cuckoo clock easily from the early 1900’s. This clock’s color can be best described as a very rich dark walnut brown with hints of cherry red that catches everyone’s eye. This black forest clock has amazing highly carved detail on a thick piece of wood that intricately describes it’s rare beautiful leaves and curving branches. This clock has it’s brass movement stamped(made in Germany)that ticks, tocks, cuckoo’s and gongs like it should. This is an American Cuckoo Clock that still has it’s original paper on the back door in excellent condition for it’s age. The cuckoo(blue bird) cuckoo’s the number of times the hour. The movement has been cleaned, oiled and serviced. The bellow tops have been recovered. This clock has bone hands. This is a working clock and in great condition for it’s age. This clock has it’s antique big flappy winged blue cuckoo bird that sits on it’s metal perch. The case has been cleaned and waxed. The measurement’s are as followed. The clock is 19 inches tall and 14 inches wide and 7 inches deep. From the very top to the bottom of the pendulum is 25 inches long. The clocks dial measure 5 inches in diameter. This clock comes with 2 antique weights and it’s hand carved pendulum with matching leaf motif on a wooden stick with a metal end. We pack with great care. One of the earliest and rarest of the Oswald Rolling Eye Clocks. Black Forest region carved wood clock. Prewar late 1920s early 1930s. One eye is the hours and one the minutes. This gives the fun effect of looking right, then cross eyed, then wall eyed, the left as the eyes turn at different speeds. About 3.5 inches tall.
