VERY RARE EARLY-MID 19TH CENTURY FANEUIL HALL, BOSTON, MA ANTIQUE AME RI CAN OIL PAINTING ON CUT-OUT TIN DOOR PLATE, W/ARABESQUE SHAPED ENDS, BLACK. ENAMEL & SCROLLED GOLD GILT. DECORATIVE LINE & DRILLED. Early-mid 19th century Ame ri can painting & depictions of early Ame ri can period architecture. 9″ Height x 3″ Width. This incredibly rare and simply exquisite early to mid 19th century Ame ri can miniature oil painting of the famous, iconic architectural early structure, known as Boston, Massachusetts’ Faneuil Hall, is on a cut-out tin door plate, featuring arabesque cut-out ends, with black enamel and gold gilt scrolled decorative line, is in wonderfully well-preserved overall antique condition. It remains untouched and unmolested and in absolutely 100% original antique condition. It was just discovered on the North Shore of Massachusetts. This most likely late Federal to early Sheraton-period New England, early-mid 19th century antique architectural accessory relic, is an Ame ric ana gem and an important Ame ri can cultural artifact. Notwithstanding the fact that present-day Faneuil Hall (now Faneuil Hall Marketplace) is the 4th most-visited historic site out of the top 25 historic sites in all of the Unit ed Sta tes, this hand-painted, antique door plate features a vertical-format central, entirely hand-painted rendition of the iconic Federal-style Faneuil Hall, redesigned and expanded in the early 19th century by famed Ame ri can architect Charles Bulfinch, considered to be the father of Ame ri can architecture and the nascent nation’s first true Ame ri can architect. Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition. It remains untouched and in unmolested original antique condition. It is without damage except for some very minor black enamel loss around where an original metal fasteners once held the cut-out and pressed tin door plate snugly against an exterior door. Absent are dings, dents, abrasions, loss or scuffs to its remarkable surface. There’s also a single spot of black enamel loss at the very apex point of the the top arabesque cut-out top of the doorplate. However, the miniature oil painting of Faneuil Hall remains undisturbed and doesn’t suffer an abrasion or scuff to the entirety of its surface. This is an important piece of Ame ri can national cultural heritage and of our nascent architectural design impulse, featuring the work of the well-known father of Ame ri can Federal-period architecture, Charles Bulfinch, the architect responsible for none other than the famous Boston, Massachusetts Statehouse, North Church in Boston, Massachusetts General Hospital and the US Capital building in Washington, DC. This antique door plate is nearly originally constituted and in nearly museum quality condition. An extraordinary and important historical discovery. Things don’t get much more exciting or more authentic than this. The item “RARE EARLY-MID 19TH C FANEUIL HALL BOSTON ANTIQUE OIL PAINTING ON TIN DOOR PLATE” is in sale since Monday, January 20, 2020. RARE 18th C ANTIQUE ENGLISH FRENCH WROUGHT IRON DOOR GRILLE EARLY BLACKSMITH

RARE 18th C ANTIQUE ENGLISH FRENCH WROUGHT IRON DOOR GRILLE EARLY BLACKSMITH

RARE 18th C ANTIQUE ENGLISH FRENCH WROUGHT IRON DOOR GRILLE EARLY BLACKSMITH
RARE 18th C ANTIQUE ENGLISH FRENCH WROUGHT IRON DOOR GRILLE EARLY BLACKSMITH. Iron door grilles were made to be placed on the interior of a large and thick door for the purpose of allowing the person inside to examine the person(s) knocking at the door. The grille frame would serve both to slightly obscure the interior users face while they viewed who was trying to enter while also preventing anything from being entered into the household or building (such as a weapon). The space for the door grille had to be large enough to view the persons outside but small enough to prevent someone from trying to stick a hand/arm in the opening as well. The grille was all blacksmith made, hand wrought and features a rarer style that the piece could be opened via the swing gate latch in case the person in the interior chose to talk to the enterer more’face to face’. This swinging of the face of the piece allowed by its placement on two iron pivot areas (see images). Smaller examples of almost identical style in craftsmanship can be seen in the book “Old French Ironwork” a scarce book in itself published decades ago. In the volume you can see a smaller version to which we’ve included a reference that shows very similiar styling to the corner work designs and center patterns. The aforementioned example being quoted as French or English in original origin. If you have traveled to Europe and viewed the wooden doors that adorn churches, public and private houses you’ll have noted the exterior entrance doors of the period are often thick oak or hardwood in nature and adorned with iron nails on the exterior. The stronghold of a home or building was invested in it’s front entrance. This piece being hammered into the interior retains five of its original six long wrought iron’rose head’ nails, each being 3 1/4 in length and a testimate to the thickness of the door it was originally placed into. The patterns to the grille are marvelous! The center being almost as if a gothic stained glass window. Wrought iron work is truly amazing throughout the piece with the blacksmith hammering the individual elements together to create a masterful work or original iron work. The overall frame dimensions of the piece measures 14 3/8″ x 10 3/4; additionally with the nails being taken into account it is 3 1/2″ deep with the addition of the handle swing latch being another 1 1/2. Weight of the piece itself is 7lbs 2oz. The piece exhibits some expected pitting and oxidation from age. Is lacking one of the six original spikes, though five are present (in itself a rare find to have so many). A very very scarce example of antique original blacksmith made decorative ironwork that is truly of Museum Quality. Get images that make Supersized seem small. Tailor your auctions with Auctiva’s. Door of Hope Mission Doll. Seldom seen together, Antique Vintage early period COLLECTIBLE DOOR OF HOPE MISSION WOMAN DOLL, CIRCA 1901. Door of Hope was created in Shanghai, China in 1901 to help destitute children. These dolls were made TO help fund the mission. Young girls of the mission intricately handmade each doll’s clothing replicating what the Chinese people worn. The heads/neck area of the early period dolls were carved of Chinese fruitwood (generally Pearwood), while their arms, hands and feet were made of cloth. In later years the dolls hands and arms to the elbow, and sometimes feet and legs were also made of wood. The wood is very smooth, unvarnished with great detail. ThE eyes hair and lips would then be lightly handpainted almost like stained/brushed/rubbed with color. The bodies were made of cloth stuffed with raw cotton and bound feet. There were no markings on these dolls. These dolls is from the 1. Early edition early period. Her HEAD/neck area is carved OF fruitWOOD (generally pearwood). Her hair is in a carved bun style with gold accents and handpainted/stained face. The body is the early period cloth body with cloth hands circa 1901. She wears a long black skirt over long blue pants, with long sleeve mandarin collar tunic top. She wears a black band on her head. She has tiny feet with bound silk and embroidered slippers/shoes pointed up. He wears a long brown skirt over blue pants with a traditional suit with mandarin collar and knotted closures. He wears a 6 paneled had with a knot. His hair is braided and tied, this is unique to the very early dolls. His feet are silk with black slippers/shoes pointing up. There is a some fading of the clothing due to age. Also, slight discoloration on the lining of the clothing from age as is typical with silk-(see photos) ONe closure on the right side of mans tunic has thread worn away. Woman’s hat has thread worn away also. I believe that this is due to age of the silk. These dolls were in a collection owned by my aunt. Most of the collection was donated to a museum in New York City while she kept a few of her favorites at home. These dolls have been very well cared for and are in great condition for their age AND BEAUTIFULLY HANDCRAFTED DOLLs. DOLLs have NOT BEEN CLEANED AND IS in their original condition.
