Novelty mantle clock depicting monkey barber, gimbal supported brass case hangs above round base moulded with vide poche, enamelled dial depicting central vignette where monkey in human clothing attempts to shave seated gentleman with disastrous results, Roman numerals, comes with some detached hardware including keys clock is working including the animated monkey arm. FRESH TO THE MARKET FROM MY PERSONAL COLLECTION! SUPER RARE AND HARD TO FIND!! ANTIQUE – CIRCA, 1810’S – MADE IN VIENNA, AUSTRIA. AUSTRIAN ZAPPLER – “3 DIMENSIONAL” – COW TAIL PENDULUM. NOVELTY DESK CLOCK WITH GLASS DOME. This rare, unusual and hard to find antique Austrian 3D Zappler clock stands 7 1/2 high with the glass dome on – The oval glass dome is approx. 7″ x 4″ across the opening – The “3D dimensional” silver plated clock body stands approx. 5 1/2″ high x 5″ wide x 3″ deep – It sits on a 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ oval wooden base with (4) small wooden disc ball feet – It has a tiny 1″ painted dial on the clock tower with a very tiny fixed “cow tail” pendulum – It has tiny black hands – The body of the clock is made up of (3) separate pieces of silver plated copper to form a 3D affect – The case. Is fitted with a quality 30 hour, key wind, time only, Austrian Zappler, fixed cow tail pendulum movement. It comes with a key for winding and its original glass dome. The clock is in excellent running order. Still displays beautifully – Great addition to any Austrian Zappler or Austrian antique novelty clock collection. This listing is for a rare antique skeleton clock. The clock is English and it dates to the early 19th century. The clock was made by Edward Scales of Manchester, England. According to “Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World” by GH Baillie, Scales was active in Manchester during the early 19th century, starting around 1800. The base is made from nice burled wood. The time only chain fusee movement does appear to be in overall good condition. But it has been in storage for quite some time. The clock could use some routine servicing and the fusee cable needs to be replaced. Glass dome is missing. 11 x 6 x 14.5 inches.
