Venus holds Cupids chariot as he breaks his bow. This superb early Victorian period genuine Wedgwood jasperware pendant is made of solid 9 carat gold, with gold dual chain drop and seed pearl accents. An allegory of love, Cupid is seen breaking his bow as its no longer needed (the wearer has found love) and Venus, goddess of long term devotion, waits to take over. The detail is quite amazing as the piece is a wonderfully wearable small size. Cupids classical shell chariot is drawn by two lions – each separately depicted rather than duplicated, in an example of extremely high quality artistry. It dates from around 1850 and is in very good, fully wearable condition, with a shallow chip to the front of the panel at 11.00 – not easily noticed. It weighs 4.3 grams, its drop is just shy of 2 inches and the jasperware panel is 27 x 20 mm.. The final photo shows it with a US penny (1 cent) coin for scale, which measures 19 mm / ¾ of an inch diameter.
