Rare Antique Pair of Tole Peinte Garniture Bouquet Urns Early 1800s. This is an extremely rare garniture from the early 1800s either French or Italian. Initially crafted for the flower market stalls. Placed on the back of the shelf and with fresh flowers placed in front the flowered urns gave the illusion of the shelves being lush with flowers. Either a pair on top of the mantle or on the ground flanking the opening of the fireplace. On a table one could protect a candle from drafts. The ones from the market would not have survived the conditions. The ones found in pairs today were pairs bought for the home. They are extremely rare. As far as researching pairs most of the examples I can find are far more simple in the design and execution. Plus a tad smaller in size. As far as Im concerned this pair is worthy of being part of a decorative arts collection in a museum. They measure up to almost 24. The widest point is between 10-11 inches. The paint for the age is very stable and not flaking. The detail work is amazing. One of the central posts has a break. This is not uncommon. It is still very stable. There is also an early repair on one of the urns. Please see all photos. What an incredible gift for you or a loved one this Holiday Season!!
