Antique Vintage Oddity Tools. Taxidermy: A very rare set of Rowland Ward taxidermist tools early 20th century in leather case with Rowland Ward’The Jungle’ 166 Piccadilly, London 19cm. He built up a hugely successful business that operated from Piccadilly, the most fashionable quarter of nineteenth century London. This business was so strongly based that it continued to operate long after Rowland’s death; in fact it survived in London until the early 1970s. In his lifetime he made many influential innovations in the craft of taxidermy, but in these he was simply carrying on, and improving on, a family tradition. On his return home, Henry Ward took over a taxidermy firm that operated in the West End of London, and became a significant tradesman in his own right. Henry’s oldest son Edwin, and then Rowland, were introduced into the business at an early age and Edwin soon became an important figure on the London zoological scene. Long before his father’s death he opened his own studio in Wigmore Street where he produced work of high quality. However, comparatively little is known of him, and he retired in 1879 for unknown reasons and soon after emigrated to the US. This left Rowland as the sole representative of the Ward family and he raised the family profile to heights that even his brother and father had not been able to reach. In addition to his attainments in taxidermy, Rowland became an important publisher and was responsible for the production of many books on natural history and travel subjects. In this endeavour he was building on a tradition begun by his brother who had produced a book called A Knapsack Manual for Sportsmen in the Field (1872) that Rowland later expanded to become his own big success The Sportsman’s Handbook to Practical Collecting, a publication so influential that it ran to no less than eleven editions. Rare Chinese short sword called paidao – China, 2nd half 19th early 20th. Traditionaly this sword was used in combination with a round shield made of rattan. The whole shape and material used make me think it is related to the Southern China, especially the North of Tonkin area. Heavy single edged blade, very thick at the forte. The grip is made of wood. I lived in Europe as an expat for many years and amassed a a superb collection of antiques (silver, porcelain, books, art, antique textiles) which I bought from antique shops, private dealers etc. I have priced all of them for much less than I paid for them, so they are bargains in the full sense of the word. I try to take detailed photos of each item in order to convey condition but will indicate in the text if there are any issues with the items. I found these glorious boots in a London shop and were told by the owner that these types of boots were collected avidly by John Galliano who found them an inspiration for his designs. Gold thread embroidery on velvet, with leather soles, these Uzbek 19th C boots were worn indoors and are often referred to as’leather stockings’.. Gracie FURRY Rare Early English 1910/20s OMEGA Teddy Bear – Hump Old Antique. I honestly adore this bear! If you love very old English teds who are very furry with lots of beautiful features including painted back glass eyes and hump then you’ll love Gracie! Gracie dates to 1910-20s and was made by Omega! She stands around 21inches tall from her ear tip to toe, is fully jointed, and well stuffed with woodwool! Omega bears are quite rare, which is why Gracie is so special as she’s in wonderful condition with hardly any wear except a little light gentle darning above her original nose stitching! She is covered in bountiful soft blonde mohair, has a fantastic hump, original pads in excellent condition (other than one handpaw which displays the pretty underpad material). She has card lined feet, stitched facial features and beautiful original shiny painted back glass eyes. Gracie is dressed in an antique cotton lace dress with ribbon bracelet and feels so wonderful to hold, she’s one of my favourite bears! I have confidence in saying she will quickly become a firm favourite in your hug, and she’s looking forward to making happy memories in her new home.. Set of antique Wedgwood plates and serving platter in the early and rare Chrysanthemum pattern. Size of plates is about 8 1/4 DIA. Size of platter is about 14 1/4″ x 10 3/4″. Overall good antique contrition for their age. Some wear to gold and light crazing consistent with age. One plate is cracked with an old staple repair and has a pice broken off. This plate will be sent as a free item if you’d like, for glue or restoration. One plate has nicks to edge. Sighs of use to bottom of all pieces. All impressed with Wedgwood mark. RARE Antique Early 1900s SS White Dental Cast Iron Wall Bracket Arm Lamp Light

Here is a Cast iron SS White articulating wall lamp bracket from the early 1900s. Great wall lamp and rewired with a new cloth wire. Both cast iron pieces move left and right. I haven’t been able to find another piece like this anywhere online. Would be great for any light or dental/medical collector. Originally when found there was a hairline crack in the top piece of main bracket. I had it professionally welded and repaired only about a quarter inch of the whole top piece. It is not noticeable now. Painted the small area in a flat black to try and match the rest of bracket. Also, liquid welded a brass socket thread at tip of arm for socket. This is to keep light socket in place. Comes with a early holophane lamp shade as well. Light is in working condition. See photos, ask any questions needed.
