Rare 18th Century Early Meissen Antique German Porcelain Dove Pigeon Tureen

Add threetreefrogs to favourites. EXCEPTIONALLY FINE AND RARE EARLY MEISSEN LIDDED SAUCE TUREEN. Presenting a magnificent 18th Century soft paste porcelain tureen and cover naturalistically modelled into the of a nesting dove / pigeon. This exceptional example was produced by the quality German makers, Meissen, circa mid to late 1700s. The beautifully modelled dove is seated upon a basket moulded base with applied shredded clay foliage trimming the top of the nest. This piece is wonderfully finished in naturalistic glazes. SIZE: This impressive piece stands approx 120mms tall, measures 195mms in length and 78mms in width. CONDITION: This piece is presented in very good antique condition with some exceptionally minor losses to the shredded clay foliage noticeable only on extremely close examination but mentioned for complete accuracy. There appears to be a minor old repair to one side of the birds tail which has been professionally done and incredibly hard to spot. We had to take a magnifyer to the piece and even then it was hard to detect. There is a minuscule fleabite sized nibble to the top of the crest upon the birds head and the tiniest rough spot to the tip of the birds beak. There is some internal staining which we have not attempted to bleach out or remove in any way and should be able to be lessened in the new owners preferred manner. Light overall surface crazing mentioned for accuracy. This authentic antique example has survived exceptionally well and presents spectacularly. MARKS: The unglazed base is beautifully marked with Meissen’s brushed blue crossed swords. Early Meissen examples such as this fine figural tureen are highly desirable and feature in top Museum collections. This stunning piece would make an outstanding addition to any early Meissen, quality antique porcelain or figural tureen collection! Shop Pottery & Ceramics. Rare Early Minton Large Tureen with Lid Antique 1864 Cameo Design Tableware
Posted by admin On April 12, 2023
Scarce Early Minton Large Tureen with Lid Antique 1864 – Cameo -Diamond Reg Mark. A very rare piece by Minton. The Cameo pattern decorates the border. This item has been with the same family for 80-100 years. It was part of a 12 piece dinner set originally. Now however, this tureen, lid and oval platter (separate listing) are the only items left. In very good condition. The addition of the diamond registration mark dates the set registration as 12th September 1864. This however does not mean it was the date the item was produced, this could have been produced much earlier. Impressed with Minton over the Backstamp. There is a further mark of C515 and a hand painted’m’ to underside base near edge. There are some areas of age, see photos, of pitted marks. No chips or significant cracks as far as I can see, but please be aware of its age, use and fragility. This is for decoration/display or collectors piece only. Not suitable for food use. This is a delightful item in the antique world of English pottery. Measures approximately 25cm length x 20cm width x 16cm height. This may differ slightly as it has been packed for safety before measuring. Many thanks for looking. This item is in the category “Pottery, Ceramics & Glass\Decorative Cookware & Tableware\Cup & Saucers”. The seller is “charlleake” and is located in this country: GB. Rare Early 18th Century Pewter Antique German Rococo Soup Tureen Dated 1723
Posted by admin On March 22, 2023
From the first quarter of the 18th century a large proportion of German pewter was made in rococo, then neo-classical, followed by Empire styles. The forms most suited to rococo were candlesticks, sauceboats, teapots, coffee pots and tureens. Most of these were of fine quality metal and workmanship, and the rococo style continued until the end of the 18th century, long after it was considered to be fashionable (1725 to 1760). The rococo style was never used by English pewterers; the Dutch and French used it sparingly. Only the Germans experimented with this style to any large degree. The eagle touchmark on this fine soup tureen suggests it comes from Villingen, Federal Republic of Germany. Covered soup tureens in the rococo style such as this, are extremely rare and are coveted by serious pewter collectors. Because they were costly, few were made. As a two piece set, far fewer survived intact for hundreds of years. This fine example is a large soup tureen with vertical lobing, measuring 14 ½ ” in width (from the outer edge of each handle) and 12″ in height. The base opening of the tureen measures 10 ½” by 7 ½”, and is engraved with the owner’s inials “GSK” and the date “1723”. The bottom of the base contains three oval maker’s marks (unidentified), the center mark containing an eagle and the numbers “2 3″. The quality of the metal is exceptional and the soup tureen weighs a full 7 pounds. There is a solder repair, as shown in the photos. This tureen holds a full gallon, and I believe it might be a “presentation piece”, adding greatly to its value. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Metalware\Pewter”. The seller is “pewtermania” and is located in this country: US. This item can be shipped to United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Denmark, Romania, Slovakia, Bulgaria, Czech Republic, Finland, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Malta, Estonia, Australia, Greece, Portugal, Cyprus, Slovenia, Japan, China, Sweden, South Korea, Indonesia, Taiwan, South Africa, Belgium, France, Hong Kong, Ireland, Netherlands, Poland, Spain, Italy, Germany, Austria, Bahamas, Israel, Mexico, New Zealand, Philippines, Singapore, Switzerland, Norway, Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Kuwait, Bahrain, Republic of Croatia, Malaysia, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Panama, Trinidad and Tobago, Guatemala, Honduras, Jamaica, Antigua and Barbuda, Aruba, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Saint Kitts-Nevis, Saint Lucia, Montserrat, Turks and Caicos Islands, Barbados, Bangladesh, Bermuda, Brunei Darussalam, Bolivia, Egypt, French Guiana, Guernsey, Gibraltar, Guadeloupe, Iceland, Jersey, Jordan, Cambodia, Cayman Islands, Liechtenstein, Sri Lanka, Luxembourg, Monaco, Macau, Martinique, Maldives, Nicaragua, Oman, Pakistan, Paraguay, Reunion.

Rare Antique (1920s) Adams Pottery Lidded Ironstone Tureen (10.5/27cm, 1.2kg)
Posted by admin On February 5, 2023
Rare Antique (1920s) English Adams Pottery Lidded Ironstone Tureen (10.5/27cm, 1.2kg). Please browse all 12 photographs for size, weight and condition as they are self explanatory. Absolutely marvellous tureen in perfect condition. Superbly 24ct gold gilded and in excellent condition without any chips, cracks or crazing. Very rare to find such an item close to 100 years old in this condition. Needs to be seen and handled close up to be fully appreciated. The Adams family had potteries in Staffordshire , England, as early as 1650. At that date two brothers, William and Thomas had separate ventures in Burslem, Stoke on Trent, England. Such family activity continued for many years. William Adams and Company, with large potteries in Tunstall was managed by members who were the 11th and 12th generations in direct descent from the original 17th century Adams of Burslem. Whilst there is no longer an Adams pottery, some of their designs are still produced with their backstamp under the Wedgwood Group name. Adams joined the Wedgwood Group in 1966. The present Adams family trace their descent in a continuous and unbroken line from William de Adams of Burslem, born 1365, who died in 1417. The earliest record of an Adams producing pottery lies in the report of 1448 of William and Richard Adams (grandsons of the above) being fined for digging clay (obviously for the making of ceramic wares) by the roadside in Burslem. These two members of the family were both described in the Tunstall Court Rolls as Master-Potters and are the first to be described as such. Since William and Richard there have been seventeen generations of the Adams family, every one of which, with the exception of three generations in the sixteenth century, is known to have carried on the ancient and honourable craft. No family can show a comparable record to this date. This item is in the category “Pottery, Ceramics & Glass\Decorative Pottery, Ceramics & Glass\Figurines”. The seller is “santoor-uk” and is located in this country: GB. This item can be shipped worldwide.
