Rare Antique Early Victorian Tragedy And Comedy Shell Cameo Mask Earrings
Posted by admin On May 8, 2022
EARLY VICTORIAN TRAGEDY AND COMEDY SHELL CAMEO EARRINGS. It’s the face of the arts, it’s the root of the arts. The comedy and tragedy symbol dates back to Greek Mythology and has been the central representation of the creative arts for decades. Going back to Ancient Greece, it is said these masks were used in early plays to represent the emotions the characters were feeling. It was easier for audience members who were sitting far away from the stage to see the masks and the emotions they were portraying. Statement to the arts, and always connected back to theatre are these gorgeous and rare Comedy and Tragedy masks early Victorian Cameo earrings. These superb Victorian gold and shell cameo earrings depict two antique theatre masks as image. Exceptionally hand carved, both the curly hair, and the expressions are evident. Both cameos are clasped within ovals of 14 kt yellow gold. Each is surmounted by graduated gold beads characteristic of the period. Classic, and dating to the early years of Victorian era, these are a superlative example of the impressive delicacy and detail of the period utilizing neoclassical motifs. Both earrings with original back to front wire, made for pierced ears, gorgeous, meaningful, scarce and perhaps they are the top part of bigger set of earrings able to survive many decades. Artfully crafted during Victorian era in 14 Kt yellow gold, tested. Great to start your own collection of antiques or to add, perfect gift for art and history lovers. 14 Kt yellow gold, tested. 2 oval shell cameo depicting hand carved tragedy and comedy masks measuring approx 15.6 mm- 12.8 mm and 15.4 mm- 13.4 mm ; (all gemstones estimated on mounting). Rare 16 Antique Bohemia Royal Dux Figural Conch Clam Shell Nymph Art Nouveau
Posted by admin On March 24, 2022
RARE ANTIQUE BOHEMIA ROYAL DUX FIGURAL CERAMIC CLAM SHELL GIRL NYMPH ART NOUVEAU. This very special 16 figurine is made by ROYAL DUX BOHEMIA. There are many models I have seen in my research but few come near to this beauty, especially in height because of the raised twin pedestal. The alluring nymph – woman is set on the edge of a beautiful conch shell which has all the characteristics of a natural shell with the colour and the curled edges. She is very appealingly leaning over making a fine picturesque stance. The shape of her head and hair is especially lovely with the hand painted features on her face especially fine. Her clothes cover her hardly concealing her beautiful shape and drape, melding seamlessly with the coral pillars. I have yet to find one so tall.. Set on what looks like a coral with flora and fauna. MEASUREMENTS: HEIGHT 16″ x WIDTH 10 1/2 x 7 1/2″ DEEP. CONDITION: NO DAMAGE OR CHIPS. Commensurate with age. I FOUND THIS ON GOOGLE.. The Dux (Duchcov) factory was established in 1853. Seven years passed without apparent successes. The firm just produced utility porcelain. In 1860 it was bought by Eduard Eichler. The new owner named it Eduard Eichler Thonwaren-Fabrik. The factory started to imitate designs by Copenhagen, Worcester and Sevrés. They were succesful winning even Silver Medal at the Paris exhibition. Eduard Eichler died in 1887. Next three years the company was run by his widow. Her son-in-law, Wilhelm Hans, bought it in 1890. He further developed the factory and in 1897 tarnsformed it into a stock corporation Duxer Porzellanmanufaktur A. The company was rewarded the Grand Prix prize at the world exhibition in St. The company had difficulties to continue production during WWI. They weren’t able to keep prewar quality. Another blow for the company was the Great Depression. After World War II German workers had to leave Czechoslovakia. In 1992 the name of the factory in Duchcov was changed to Porcelánová Manufaktura Royal Dux Bohemia A. Since 1997 it is a part of the “Ceský Porcelán” group. I try to describe all the items as accurately and as honestly as possible, and I always include photos or scans of the actual items. My items are usually vintage or antique, very rarely new, and condition will sometimes reflect this with minor marks, wear on gilding etc. Anything major such as cracks chips or major loss of gilding etc will be pointed out in the description and shown on the photos. Rare EARLY Antique SHELL ART Seashell Encrusted Vase Folk Art Mosaic Primitive
Posted by admin On April 24, 2020
Exquisite example of early American shell art. The vase is a turned red clay with a white slip covering. Shells are applied all over the surface creating a mosaic pattern of flowers and geometric shapes. There are red/orange glass beads in the center of the flowers. Around 10.75 inches tall and quite heavy. Overall it is in good condition. There are likely a few of the smaller shells that have chipped over the years but you have to hunt to find them. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Decorative Collectibles\Seashells”. The seller is “gone_4_good” and is located in Gainesville, Florida. This item can be shipped worldwide.
