Rare Antique Early 19thc Arborescent Bird Fountain Chintz Fabric Lg. Quilt Piece
Posted by admin On March 31, 2022
Absolutely beautiful and so rare to find. A fine early bird chintz quilted textile from about 1820. The front is a bird drinking from a fountain or possibly an urn or fountain surrounded by arborescent foliage and flora. There is a lovely speckled design to the ground. Lovely soft autumnal type hues of sage green and soft browns. Either English or American. Not overly glazed, soft and soft tones. The back is a madder toned cotton print which is later than the cotton chintz on the front so very possibly generational. I imagine once part of a larger counterpane. One edge is stitched under as is the bottom in tiny stitches I have tried to show in the photos. The other edge is raw. An amazing piece for the collector of rare early textiles. Displays beautifully in an early setting. Strong and stable and in fine condition for it’s age. Some age tanning to the bottom area as seen in photo #10 which to me adds lovely charisma to this charming specimen. Measures just slightly over 10″ wide by aprox 73-74″ long. I sell antique and vintage fabric. Each textile is different; some possibly used, some unused. I will give you my best assessment. I do not always launder them nor do I know all their history, how they have been stored over time etc.. I have a 30+ year long & extensive knowledge of textiles and gauge age ranges; fiber content etc.. To the best of my ability. As always please view all photos, dimensions etc.. As they are part of the description. Please keep in mind that I provide the best photos possible but monitors do vary. If my eyes should miss a small flaw, please know it is not intentional. Combined invoices are rarely accurate. Again, if you have any questions, please message me. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Linens & Textiles\Fabrics”. 2 Vintage Antique Style’alphabet Sampler’ +other Rare Christmas Tree Pin +quilt
Posted by admin On October 17, 2021
Gothic style lettering on a dark sterling silver Christmas tree pin known as the Antique Alphabet Sampler arbor. The brooch features a stack of letter from A to Z. A fraction under 2-1/2. Accompanied by a scarce MFA (Museum of Fine Arts) Christmas tree pin with maybe a Native American at center? Since out of Boston, maybe it celebrates the bounty of the first Thanksgiving near Plymouth. Bonus is a Christmas tree pin made of an antique quilt. A thread spool is its base. Not sure how many they produced, just said it was made of an antique quilt. Buttons are its ornaments and the top features tied twine. Extremely RARE, UNIQUE EARLY AMERICAN ANTIQUE LINSEY WOOLSEY PATCHWORK QUILT
Posted by admin On June 18, 2021
EXTREMELY RARE, Particularly Old, Early American Antique New England LINSEY WOOLSEY QUILT. DESCRIPTION: This is a particularly early & incredibly rare linsey woolsey quilt. Nice bright colors and color choices. Very nice, early American colonial design. Body is mustard/light green strips, and 3-sided border, made to drape over sides of bed, has large diamonds. Very nice star, geometric, and sash pattern quilting as shown. ALL HAND STITCHED AND HAND SEWN. Linsey Woolsey is a strong, coarse fabric, common in the US during the colonial era and also among the lower classes in England for the past few hundred years. Known for its warmth and durability. Linsey Woolsey quilts typically have a shiny appearance at least on the top; this one is shiny on the top, while the backing fabric is a coarse material. THIS IS DEFINITELY AN EXTREMELY EARLY QUILT FROM THE DESIGN, PATTERN, STYLE, AND STITCHING CHARACTERISTICS, AND APPEARS TO BE FROM THE LATE 1700’s – EARLY 1800’s. THIS IS ONE OF THE RAREST, EARLIEST QUILTS YOU WILL FIND. The back is in very good condition. Some piecing, appears original with early stitching, to make the most of the fabric available. Also on the front it appears that fabrics/colors, e. Were chosen based on what they had available, as you would expect on an early farm. Binding is original and generally in good condition, but separated from the quilt in places. Some age related damage in places, but pretty decent condition for its age. Some very early staining in one area. This is a great early quilt by itself. It is also a perfect candidate for a complete restoration or could be used in historic fabric classes or education. It could also be used for cut up for high quality quilt projects, or cut up to enable a number of collectors to have an example for framing. I have not laundered this and it should never be laundered in any way. Measures approximately 80″ x 92″. THIS IS A GREAT PIECE FOR SERIOUS QUILT COLLECTORS, ENTHUSIASTS, OR THOSE INTERESTED IN HISTORICAL FABRICS. In over 40 years of quilt collecting this is the ONLY ONE that I have ever seen offered for sale. PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS!!
