Rare! Antique 18th C Brass Tinder Box Striker Flint Candle Holder Early Lighting
Posted by admin On July 7, 2023
For sale is a RARE early antique tinder box with its complete assembly of fire starting tools (, a wrought iron striker, a piece of flint rock, and some tinder fiber). The box is made out of brass with a hinged lid and a flat finger loop, very solid and well made. Good old brass patina throughout. The box measures about 3.5″ in diameter and 1.25″ tall. The lid opens and shuts properly with all content inside. The iron striker measures about 2 long. It is in the classical bow form with two nicely curled tails. There are clearly visible early hammering and folding signs. Perfectly darkened iron surface and great antique patina. Along with a flint rock and some old tinder material, this assembly of fire starting tools is an essential early lighting device for colonial American home and pioneer travelers alike. You can see how it is used in the Jeremiah Johnson movie. Please feel free to check out my other antique and collectible listings.

RARE EARLY 18th Century WROUGHT IRON CANDLESTICK EARLY LIGHTING 1700’s NR
Posted by admin On February 21, 2020
Thank You For Visting Fox Run Farms Antiques! Also be sure to check out our other listings this week for more examples of period metalware and antique country furnishings! This 18th century blacksmith made wrought iron candlestick is of European original origin; French or English, and brought over to America by immigrants. This was another great example of early lighting we have acquired from a collector who specialized in lighting and had assembled his collection decades ago. As you can see the piece has an adustable mechanism to the formation of the candle shaft, allowing the user to raise up the candle via the curled tabbed slider. Has a wonderful tri-legged design underneath a circular “up turned” drip pan. Retains the original top hook that would allow the piece to be transported or hung off the back of a chair when not placed atop a table. Some pitting expected for age. Candleshaft has a very slight tilt to it. All signs of age point to usage and expected wear from age. Stands approx 7 3/4 tall. Note the square nut and slightly out of round rivet to the bottom construction. Again a rare example thats been in a private collection for decades and fresh to market for the appreciator of fine lighting and early iron. Thanks for visiting us here at FoxRun-Farms! Rare 17th 18th Century C Wrought Iron Lighting Cresset Early Lighting Antique
Posted by admin On January 11, 2019
Rare 17th 18th Century C Wrought Iron Lighting Cresset Early Lighting Antique. A rare piece of early lighting illustrated in numerous reference books on lighting and early wrought iron. Dating From the Mid 17th to Mid 18th Century, this is a lovely representation of early lighting in great original form and presentation. The cresset served as a platform for which to place dried pine knots or oil soaked material to be burned for illumination. All hand wrought, blacksmith made with nice attention to detail including four’rams horn’ designs featured on four areas of the piece. Measures 5 1/2″ in diameter, length of the spike is 7 1/2″. Spike would have been affixed to a holder on the outside or interior of a home, business of tavern. There is some expected rust from age as well as the residue from centuries old soot and mortar. This piece was never cleaned and is in rare untouched original condition. Would make an excellent addition to any lighting collection or period home.
