This listing is for an early antique Black Forest wall clock. This clock is very unusual, as it features a roof like top, ornately carved lower panel with a carving of a man, carved dial, ornate hands, and wooden movement. The clock is missing its weights. We took photos with weights from an American ogee clock attached in order to show where the chains are. The ogee weights are not included. There are remnants of a makers label on the back. It looks like it says KHS with the emblem of an animal of sorts. This clock measures 48 x 15 x 8 inches. Its a beautiful pieces that we unfortunately do not know a whole lot about. There is a piece of trim missing on the upper right side and it appears that there was once a top ornament or finial of sorts that is missing (see photos). This item is part of an inherited estate. Rare Authentic Early 19th century Medical Usage Brass Pandemic Plague Pan&#######xA0. We are offering a device known as a plague pan. &#######xA0;We’ve never had an authentic plague pan in the forty years we’ve been in business. Century, two handled&#######xA0;device was created originally for the usage in sick rooms. People thought impure air caused the disease and could be cleansed by smoke and heat. The holes in the plague pan allowed the coals and embers to breath. &#######xA0;The plant material (evergreen and herbs) would then ignite and thus the smoldering would occur. The attending medical aid would carry this smoky (believed to be) disinfectant into the sick&#######xA0;rooms. This plague pan has feet and two short arms, (see pictures) a feature that would never accommodate the purpose for warming the bed. &#######xA0;&#######xA0;Bed warming pans never had holes. Holes would have brought&#######xA0;unnecessary&#######xA0;smoke into the bed when heat was all that was desired. &#######xA0;Hot coals were placed in&#######xA0;bed warming pans, the lid (with no holes) closed and used just long enough to warm under the covers. The single long handle easily slid under the blankets. Many of the early “bed warming pans” were repurposed as plague pans. Holes were punched into the top (at a later date) to&#######xA0;release the smoke&#######xA0;and thus turning it into a plague pan. Notice the three circular “fenced” locations within this authentic plague pan. This was necessary to secure the embers. The plant or herbs to be ignited&#######xA0;were placed strategically&#######xA0;for maximum smoldering&#######xA0;time. This plague pan has a brass knob on one handle that when pushed opens the lid. FOR SALE IS AN EXTREMELY EARLY MID VICTORIAN ANEROID DESK OR MANTLE BAROMETER BY EDWARD JOHN DENT THE FAMOUS ENGLISH CLOCKMAKER. THE INSTRUMENT HAS THE VERY LOW SERIAL NUMBER 6037. THE BAROMETER IS HOUSED IN A RARE UPRIGHT VERSION OF THE DENT SLOPING OAK DISPLAY CASE. This elegant example is comprised of a 4 3/4 barometer with a lacquered brass casing featuring a decorative milled edge. The silvered dial has a scale reading 28 to 31 inches of atmospheric pressure with seven weather indications around the top section. The bottom half of the dial contains a semi-circular spirit thermometer reading from 20 to 120 degrees fahrenheit. The dial has fine engraving throughout and it is signed E. Dent, Paris London followed by the very low serial number 6037 suggesting an extremely early date of manufacture almost certainly in the 2nd half of the 1840s. The pointer is blue steel and there is an internal brass recording hand adjusted by a raised central brass knob set outside the glass cover. The outer case measures 6 1/2″ in width and 6″ in height. It is made from beautifully patinated golden oak with a sloped front and glass viewing port. The hinged front still has the original lock but the key is missing. The fitted interior retains its original blue velvet lining and has a sliding brass retaining bar to secure the ring stem of the barometer in place. This piece is a rare example. I have never seen another Dent barometer in an upright style case like this one. If preferred, the case could be inverted so that the back becomes the base in which case the look would be like the usual sloping desk model except that the barometer would be upside-down. It is unrestored and in good original condition with some wear to the upper edge of the rear of the oak case and a couple of approximately 2.0cm scratches to the LHS of the glass viewing port. The barometer is in full working condition and readily passes the plastic bag pressure test. The thermometer is fully working wth no air-gaps in the red spirit. A rare and very early addition to any collection of scientific instruments. The item “V. EARLY E. J.
