A very rare early Victorian provincial sterling silver soup ladle. It is hallmarked for Exeter 1844 with the makers marks being RW for Robert Williams. It has been beautifully made to what is termed the Kings pattern. It is in super condition being free from dings splits distortions and repairs, light scratches to the bowl from use. It measures an impressive 13.5 inches (34.6cms) long by 4.25 inches (11cms) wide and weighs an incredible 312 grams. A beautifully made impressive rare piece. Antique Ceylonese silver and copper betel nut lime box or KILLOTAYA. Of flattened round form with attached chain this was made to carry lime or chunam for mixing with sliced Areca nut for betel chewing. Hinged like a pocket watch. Superb quality and detail with silver hinges, surrounds and chain with silver inlaid copper to front and back. Dating from late 18th century and missing its little silver spike or spoon on end of chain. (See similar example The Clive Collection at Powis Castle). Most killotayas were made of brass or copper. This example with fine silver mounts was probably a special commission from a wealthy Kandy dignitary. Size – 4 cms. Weight – 22 gms. Rare Antique Georgian early 18th Century Snuff Box. A fine example of an early silver, tortoiseshell and mother of Pearl. Extremely hard to find an example like this one. Very well-crafted box with silver mounted frame. The tortoiseshell has a great colour, typically of this period. As a bonus there are no engraved initials. The lid hinge works perfectly.
