VERY RARE LATE 19TH to EARLY 20TH CENTURY AME RI CAN F O L K A R T ANTIQUE C O L O R W O O L HO O K E D R U G, w i t h C O V E R E D B R I D G E , C H U R C H , W H I M S I C A L T R E E S , D O G, F I G U R E S & P E R I O D W O V E N M U S L I N C O T T O N S T R I P E D B A C K I N G. Early 20th century Ame ri can antique primitive handmade, hand woven figurative wool hooked rugs. 37 ½” Width x 27″ Height. Offered for your review and consideration is this utterly fantastic, simply amazing and in incredibly well-preserved overall, near originally constituted antique condition, late 19th to early 20th century Ame ri can folk art antique colored wool, handmade hooked rug, featuring a bucolic, near dream-like New England landscape, seemingly bursting with color and complete with a northern New England covered wooden bridge, white clapboard church, stone walls, gnarled old trees, flowers and several figures, as well as a dog. The period rug has no foul smells and doesn’t suffer loss to any of its edges, its black framed borders or even more importantly, in the pictorial field. The area above the wood covered bridge consists of the foliage of trees swirling around like tumultuous wind currents or resembling the rings of receding tidal pools. The maker of the hooked rug seemed particularly focused on enthusiastically portraying the natural bounty, overwhelming beauty and wealth of New England. A veritable Ame ri can antique folk art masterwork. Lush, bright and with gorgeous, brilliant, vivid colors, this wonderful textile art treasure appears to have been rolled up and protected for the more than 100-130 years since it was initially realized. It is nearly, if not, as it was originally constituted. It is a rare feat indeed for a work of textile art to not have the kind of wear we’re accustomed to seeing, when a rug such as this is placed on the floor and walked upon. The presence of dogs, heeled shoes, dirt, sand, wine and food all would have contributed to the hooked rug’s certain depreciation and ultimate demise over time. This was not the case with this incredible work of masterful rug making. It appears never to have been used as a rug or was placed on the floor of a home without pets or children, and away from direct sunlight, since it has virtually no wear or color depreciation at all to speak of. As clean as anyone could ever expect an antique hooked rug to still be. An Ame ri can folk art masterwork in nearly immaculate, pristine condition. It won’t disappoint. Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition. The item “RARE EARLY 20TH C AMERICAN FOLK ART ANTIQUE WOOL HOOKED RUG WithCVRD BRIDGE/CHURCH” is in sale since Sunday, August 2, 2020. EARLY to MID 19TH CENTURY ANTIQUE AME RI CAN LARGE 9 HAND PAINTED, DECORATED TIN TOLEWARE BOX, with DOME LID, LOOPED. WIRE LID PULL & FULL FRONT. Early to mid 19th century Ame ri can antique decorated toleware boxes & decorative accessories. 5 34″ Height x 8 34 ” Width x 4 34 Depth. Weight: 14.2 oz. For sale is this quite nice and quite well-preserved early to mid-19th century Ame ri can antique decorated toleware tin lidded box, with looped wire lid pull and intact front tin clasp assembly. The tin was recently discovered here in southern New Hampshire and remains in’as-found,’ untouched and undisturbed original antique condition. There’s some expected slight, very minor scuffs and/or abrasions to the tin’s surface, where there are only very minor dots of interruptions to the mainly black paint. The hand painted floral motif in orange and green over gold or what was once putty white however, is largely and thankfully mostly intact. The tin itself doesn’t suffer from any significant dings, dents or deformities. The tin dome lidded box is complete, with all of its original component parts. It’s rare to find these scarce, hard-to-find early tin toleware boxes in this kind of untouched condition, with frankly this much paint on them and with only some minor spots of missing black enamel paint. Often they’re in-painted or entirely repainted, destroying their antique pedigree and authenticity and forever altering their original surfaces. This one clearly, fortunately escaped the trials and tribulations of life and the merciless, unsympathetic machinations of time. Good to Very Good overall antique condition. No attempt has been made to repair,’in-paint’ or to conceal any of the very minor damage or tiny spots of loss of principally black enamel paint. This early to mid-19th century hand decorated antique Ame ri can tin toleware box is in absolutely, 100% untouched, undisturbed, original antique condition. The item “EARLY-MID 19TH C AMERICAN ANTIQUE HND PNTD DEC TOLEWARE TIN BOX/LATCH/WIRE PULL” is in sale since Thursday, December 3, 2020. Antique 1907 AETNA Early American Mohair Fully Jointed Teddy BEAR 14 tall. Head is stuffed wood cork, body is stuffed with excelsior and kapok. Nose has some stitches missing, but because there is a bottom inset cloth, you can’t really tell. This Teddy BEAR is ALL original. Paw pads are inset with cardboard in the FEET. And there is no stamp on the foot (it has faded with age). I would say this Teddy Bear is attributed to AETNA early American BEAR. The ear placement and the face seam is centered to the ears. The Head is slightly firmly stuffed, and there is a slight wobble which is normal for a bear this age. Comes from a Fine Estate here in Palm Springs. I have NEVER come across a bear like this from AETNA. Concerning Clothing: Although garments are carefully inspected… Some slight irregularities may be noticeable. We do not consider fabric nubs, or discoloration constituting a flaw. Your understanding of uniqueness and total individuality of this garment will be appreciated… Photos are part of the Description! Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a gorgeous American hand made early-mid 1800’s tiger maple candle storage box. The body of the box is made of 3/4 thick, solid tiger maple wood with rich, mellow coloration and prominent graining. The box is a larger size than normally found and has a dovetailed construction with wide bordered chamfered sliding top with locking mechanism. The key hole has a brass edge and we do have a working key which may or may not be original to the box. The wide dovetails are set far apart which is generally a sign of older construction. Candle boxes are generally rectangular boxes with tight fitting sliding lids and were generally made from less expensive woods as they were made to be utilitarian storage boxes used to protect candles from rodents. This box was definitely made by a very talented wood worker possibly as a gift for a special person due to its construction details and use of a more desirable wood than normally used. Measures 15″ long, 8″ wide and 6 deep. Weighs 6.3 pounds. This unusual tiger maple box is in excellent Estate condition with no noted flaws reflecting only minor signs of normal wear. Have been in the Antiques business for over 30 years and try to describe our items as accurately as possible. We are happy to answer any questions and always appreciate your business!
