[Found in southern New Hampshire and most likely an early New Hampshire paint decorated pine box and not an early Maine paint decorated pine box, due to the delicate & fine nature of its paint decoration & refined features]. Early to mid 19th century New Hampshire paint decorated, early pine wooden boxes, trunks & other decorative wooden accessories. 13 1/4″ Width x 8 1/4″ Depth x 6 Height. Estate fresh and in simply extraordinary condition. Early New England, antique hand decorated, painted wooden pine boxes don’t come much better than this. Estate fresh, 100%, absolutely untouched and as it was when it was discovered in the early post and beam southern New Hampshire estate it was removed from. According to family sources, this and many of the other antique items found in the same home, were there for as long as any of the descendants could remember. The pine box features old ox blood, chalky red painted exterior finish, featuring combed, squiggly charcoal black decorated, repeating motif, with original rear, early wire lid hinges and original front lock assembly, with black enamel painted cut, flat stock tin key escutcheon. A simply extraordinary early New England primitive painted artifact in just gorgeous paint. Most likely made in New Hampshire between 1825 to 1850. Probably a New Hampshire hand decorated, painted early pine box and not a Maine one, due to the delicate, dainty quality of the paint decoration and refined form of the diminutive box. Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition. Only the left interior pine wooden lid slat’hold’ was snapped off at its mid-section at some previous juncture in time. Nothing has been done to the box to remedy this isolated damage to the box, which is now anywhere from 175 to nearly 200 years old. A truly exceptional, extraordinary New England primitive and early Ame ri can antique. Perhaps for those who truly understand the distinct and clear difference between a Datsun and a Lexus or between a Volkswagon and a Porsche, if you prefer the Ger ma ny analogy over the Jap an ese one. RARE EARLY 19TH CENTURY AME RI CAN FOLK ART, ANTIQUE, PENNSYLVANIA or NEW ENGLAND, PRIMITIVE, WHEEL -THROWN & HAND DECORATED REDWARE CERAMIC BOWL. Featuring DOUBLE BANDED PATTERN with. [Found in a Connecticut River Valley, western Massachusetts early home]. Early 19th century Pennsylvania & New England hand decorated redware ceramic plates, bowls, chargers & other decorative objects. 9 12″ Width x 3″ Height. Offered for your review and consideration is this absolutely fantastic and very clean, rare, early 19th century Pennsylvania or New England, wheel-thrown and hand decorated redware ceramic bowl, featuring a double banded interior basin with leaves, raised outer sill and a cleated, raised bottom. This very scarce work of early 19th century Ame ri can folk art is completely hand painted with butter and vermillion green colored slip glaze, with semi-transparent sepia brown thin line, complimenting the quick, gesturally painted thicker bands of butter colored glaze, punctuated with swaths of a repeating green leaf motif. The graphic iconography of the bowl’s interior basin is consistent with other similar redware plates and bowls of the same period and region. This particular bowl has extremely gestural, kinetically applied slip glaze, which was actively applied to the bowl’s interior. The exterior sidewalls are unglazed and show the raw, kiln-fired redware, featuring naturally aged clay patina. There are only a few very minor touches around the rim. No hairline cracks, repairs (old or new) or’in-painting. The bowl remains as it was taken from the Deerfield, Massachusetts early, post and beam home and sprawling estate. An incredibly well-preserved and rare early 19th century and early Ame ri can antique cultural artifact. Nearly as old as dirt and very rare, especially intact and nearly unblemished, as is this beautiful piece of early 19th century antique Ame ri can redware. Very Good to Excellent overall antique condition. The item “RARE EARLY 19TH C AMERICAN ANTIQUE PRIMITIVE REDWARE BOWL, WithBANDED LEAF PATTERN” is in sale since Wednesday, September 15, 2021. Extremely Rare Original Spanish American War Military Issue Straw Hat, Brought Home as a Battlefield Souvenir by a US Sailor on the U. VERY RARE original Spanish American War black straw hat. Issued during the hot weather military combat and brought home by the identified US Sailor from the USS FRANKLIN. Scans show it all. Nicely made of a straw type of material and issued that way….. Then stained black as an added protection against the sun and weather. Has a nice 5-pointed star sewn on the center of the crown…… Made of cloth, with military gilt sequins sewn on it, as shown. Nice 3/4″ wide black hat band attached around the base of the crown as shown, with nice Navy “tail in the back. Has nice 1 1/2 wide leather head band inside the crown. Inside sweat band is dry, and several cracks, but it is all there, relatively sound, and all in place. On the top of the inside crown most of an original ownership label remains, on which is written: William P. I assume that this was the Navy sailor who wore the hat since it was brought home by this US sailor. Hat is in very good. A few occasional flaking spots only. Has one small hole in the back of the brim which appears to have been put there to hang it on a nail. Bottom measures about 12″ x 12 5/8″ overall. Inside head opening measures 6 1/4″ wide x 7″ long. Crown has a gentle slope to it, and is 3 1/8 high. On the outside the brim is about 2″ wide in the back and 2 1/2″ wide on the sides and in the front. I was also told that this could have been an enemy Spanish battlefield/combat souvenir taken by this sailor, although I don’t know. Seems more likely that it belonged to the US sailor. I have never seen one of these available for sale. VERY OLD AND VERY RARE, ESPECIALLY WITH THE OWNERSHIP ID!! And this is a nice example of such a nice, RARE MUSEUM-QUALITY HAT, for a variety of display and collection objectives!! PLEASE SEE ATTACHED PHOTOS!!
