RARE LATE 1800s / EARLY 1900s NEW ZEALAND MAORI LARGE CARVED PATU / WAHAIKA CLUB. It really does have quite a bit of age about it, but what is most fascinating are the notches to the top at the rear, their significance is unknown. The carved wooden Wahaika is in original untouched condition, no attempt has been made to polish / restore / clean it. It measures 36cms long & is 10.5cms wide at the top. There are some removable pits in the metal. The original horn scales are in spectacular condition given the age – some chips are present and visible in the photos. There is hone wear to the razor since these photos were taken in order to hone the razor to shave ready.
