Antique RARE Stroock Carriage Lap Blanket Late 1800's early 1900's Free Ship
Antique RARE Stroock Carriage Lap Blanket. Samuel Stroock left his home in Tenn in 1866 and trekked to New York to begin a small business in a loft, producing felt and carriage robes, or lap blankets, for the horse drawn carriage trade. He eschewed the poor standards and practices of the times when caveat emptor was the by-word, and insisted upon offering only the highest quality; a novel approach that quickly led to Stroock Carriage Robes being synonymous with the best. This Carriage Lap Blanket is in perfect condition. No holes or tears and the label is still intact. Instead of one side having felt, flannel or wool there is horsehair in both sides making this blanket very thick, heavy, warm and from what I can gather… In all my research I have only been able to find the blankets with the backings on them, and they all seem to be in not so pristine condition. This blanket looks new. I can imagine it in the back of someones restored Model-T, or an antique horse drawn carriage, maybe in a museum somewhere being preserved. A part of our history. Of course Im not an expert by any means I could be wrong, I obtained this Carriage Blanket at an estate sale in the heart of the Shenandoah Valley. Unfortunately I missed out on the other Stroock Carriage blankets at the sale. But this one was my favorite. The dimensions are 53×70-1/2. All sales are final and as is. “Rare – Interesting Piece of Phonograph History” ANTIQUE: EARLY 5 CYLINDER PHONOGRAPH UNMARKED – Brass Metal Top Piece was found attached as seen in photo and WAS TREADLE POWERED at the time of discovery. You are getting an antique unmarked early 5 cylinder phonograph (not complete, as I have been told) – that was treadle powered from the late 1800’s. Termites destroyed the table top that the phonograph was sitting on (see actual photos – showing the wood table top that was there before it had to be removed). It was part of a huge antique find in Polk County, Florida recently that was caught up in legalities between two deceased antique collectors for a couple of decades or more. Please look over all the photos as they are part of the description. The piece is untampered with and just the way we found it. NOTE: This paragraph may have nothing to do with this item:This is one of the early dictating machines/phonographs of the 1870’s – 1890’s. Not sure what company or person was behind this one since it is unmarked… Edison, Bell, Tainter, Bell? The dictating machines of this time period used tin, foil and wax over the cylinders. Some were also known as shavers, Volta, Dictaphones, or Graphophones. Tainter was the first, I believe, to put the phonograph on a sewing machine base and use the treadle to power the phonograph cylinder. This listing is for the top unit only – not the treadle base/sewing machine base that you see in the photos. You will get the item just as you see it in the photo (top phonograph part only). >the phonograph approximate dimensions: 18-1/2″W x 8-1/2″D x 9-1/2H (brass type metal). The base with treadle is NOT included. Table top is NOT included. Non-working phonograph at this time.
