1940s Hadrill Horstmann Floor Standing Counterweight Lamp Rare Early Prototype
Posted by admin On March 11, 2019
Extremely rare Hadrill Horstmann counterweight lamp. I know of only one other in existence which is in a private collection. This lamp predates the’Roller’ design with a large suspended weight. The weight is sprung on its shaft. I believe it was a prototype which was superceded by the roller. Interestingly the limbs are not stamped with branding. I think at this stage decal labels were used but would have been on magnifier cover. No repainting on top half it’s all completely original scuffs and all. Though actually it’s in remarkably good condition for its age (1940s). It has been disassembled, thoroughly cleaned and polished. Every but and washer is present and original including all the knurled nuts. Corners of shade have small bolted reinforcements. Very subtle but may not be original. Stand has been repainted. It connects to lamp via a solid steel shaft which protrudes about 4 inches from base and exactly fits the middle tube. Side brackets can be adjusted. There are four independent parts so the current arrangement is just how I thought they looked tidy. Not sure how these were originally used. All rewired with new braided flex. Vintage bulb holder which is properly earthed and is switched. I’ll do my best to wrap her up but I can’t box it. My estimate is it weighs around 20 kilos. I’ll deliver within 30 miles free of charge. The item “1940s Hadrill Horstmann Floor Standing Counterweight Lamp Rare Early Prototype” is in sale since Thursday, March 7, 2019. This item is in the category “Antiques\Antique Furniture\Lamps\20th Century”. The seller is “captain_kipper” and is located in Sheffield. This item can’t be shipped, the buyer must pick up the item.

Rare & early Uncle Remus teddy bear
Posted by admin On March 10, 2019
Rare & early Uncle Remus teddy bear. This hunky boy measures just shy of 17 and is quite the beefcake! He has his original deep set reverse painted glass eyes. His extremely long curved arms move freely and are thick and chunky. Original felt pads on all paws. Hand pads have beautifully done darning and one small area at the foot pad seam has this lovely darning as well. Five claws on feet and some have popped on hands. All joints move freely and I see no repairs at all. He wears a gorgeous silk handmade collar. He has a fabulous profile and a look like no other with a very nice covering of mohair. Uncle Remus bears were only made for two years, 1906 and 1907. Joel Chandler Harris, the author of the Uncle Remus stories, died in 1908. Following his death, these bears were no longer marketed. You can find some info about Uncle Remus bears on page 31 of The Teddy Bear Treasury volume 2 by Ken Yenke. The item “Rare & early Uncle Remus teddy bear” is in sale since Friday, March 8, 2019. This item is in the category “Dolls & Bears\Bears\Antique”. The seller is “cristina69″ and is located in Highland Lakes, New Jersey. This item can be shipped worldwide.

Antique exquisite rare early miniature drawing dividers combination Architect

A fine small combination set of brass & iron drawing dividers. /compasses in a leather covered wooden case. The double-hinged main dividers with interchangeable ruling pen dividers & pencil holder dividers. All the folding parts have double steel hinges. The wooden case is in excellent condition – with lovely burgundy red leather – no cracks or damage with working silver locking clasp & good secure hinge with silver studs. Please note: the fine wing-nut fastener for the ruling pen has one wing absent. Otherwise it’s a fine early example of the highest quality – very rare to find with such a nice case too. Rare Find Early Victorian Walnut Howard & Son’s Fully Restored Club Armchair
Posted by admin On March 9, 2019
There are around 50-100 high definition super-sized pictures at the bottom of this page. I have a Howard and Son’s sofa listed under my other items that has just been restored to the same standard. This chair has been on a journey, as you can see from the pre-restoration pictures it came to me with a rather bulky modern upholstery on it, I carefully and painstakingly removed the modern fabric to find a stunning rare walnut framed early Victorian Howard & Sons armchair complete with some original distressed upholstery, they had even taken the time to cut out the little H & S initials from the fabric. The back leg is stamped with the serial number, the castors are Cope & Collingson which is the only company Howard & Sons would use as they could make them to Howard’s specification. The chair has been fully restored as you can see, its been reupholstered by a third generation Victorian upholsterer and then hand dyed this lovely tobacco brown colour by my leather polishers, simply put this chair is the finest example you will find anywhere today. Howard & Sons are simply put the finest chair makers in history, the Queen even has a private collection. Width:- 74.5cm. Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask. A History of Howard and Sons. The name of Howard and Sons is probably one of the best known and highly sought after names in Upholstered furniture. Over the next few paragraphs I will do my best to give you a brief history of the company. The company was started by John Howard in 1820 trading from 24 Leman St, London as a Cabinet Maker. Over the next 25 years they would make several changes of premises within the Whitechapel area. First to 27 Great Alie St (Now just Alie St) before moving a short distance to 34 Great Alie St. In 1844 the company made its first venture into upholstered furniture by opening a showroom/workshop at 36 Red lion St. This was also to be a big move towards what would be their next and most famous location. In 1848 they moved to a new address much more accustomed with the name; Berners St. London as Cabinet Maker, Upholsterer and Decorator under the name John Howard and Sons. The business seemed to boom at this location with workshops opening up at Tottenham St, Charlotte Mews and Fitzroy Sq and an expansion to a second Berners St building in 1853. In 1869 the company consolidated its many workshops into the one building on Cleveland St. By 1872 the company was occupying 25, 26 and 27 Berners St. These adresses would remain unchanged until 1935. During this period they became a limited company in 1899 and won the first of their Royal warrants in 1901. In 1935 the the well established decorators Lenygon and Morant appear to take over the name with the business address being given as 31 Old Burlington St (Lenygon and Morants premesis since 1909). Lenygon and Morant later moved to South Audley St where from 1954 they advertised as’Makers of Howard Chairs and Sofas’. In 1967 the owners of Lenygon and Morant open Howard Chairs Limited, the company operating from Lyme St continue to make high quality sofas and armchairs. Exhibitions and Important Houses. At the 1862 International Exhibition (The 3rd World Expo) Howard and Sons entered a suite of library furniture for which they won a prize. They also went on to exhibit at the Paris World’s Fair, called an Exposition Universelle twice; once in 1878 and again in 1900. Also at the Exposition Internationale d’Anvers 1894 (International Exposition/World Fair Antwerp). Winning Prizes at them all including 1 silver and 2 golds. They also employed their eclectic styles working for many important clients providing furniture for important houses such as Sudbury Hall in Derbyshire, Elton Hall, Huntingdonshire and Stokesay Court, Shropshire. This item is available for collection from our Wimbledon warehouses SW19-3BE, we can have it delivered nationwide to include Scotland Wales and Ireland.
