RARE ANTIQUE TIN TOY. EARLY MECHANICAL MOTORCYCLE / AUTOMATON RIDER. NICE SIZE AT ABOUT 8 INCHES LENTH / 7 INCHES HEIGHT. CLOCKWORK / WIND UP MECHANISM….. POWERS THE BIKE THRU ITS RARE CHAIN DRIVE ACTION. PERIOD EDWARDIAN GENTLEMAN FIGURE, WITH ORIGINAL HAND PAINTED FINISH. VERY NICE OLD MOTORCYCLE, STILL WITH BRIGHT BLUE LITHO. NICE TIN SPOKE WHEELS & ORIG. ORIGINAL FIXED-KEY WINDER TO THE LEFT SIDE. THE MOTORCYCLIST HAS A WONDERFUL ARTICULATED MOVEMENT, GIVING THE IMPRESSION HE IS “PEDAL STARTING ” HIS BIKE. STILL WITH THE UNDERSIDE LITTLE BALANCE WHEELS. WONDERFUL OLD PIECE NOW WELL OVER 100 YEARS……. The rider displays with typical paint loss/wear, chips, flaking as is common to these earlier German toys. Nice bright tin litho, with just little surface marks, chips, scuffs etc…. Great rot free state. No repaint or touch up. Motorcyclist has lost his left arm to shoulder hang tabs i have created a simple metal bracket with tabs, which simply slots into the original shoulder slots….. The rider’s underside upper left arm, simply requires securing permanently to this bracket…. With a drop of solder ideally….. But to leave for the next owner, i have had the arm very securely fixed in place with a small blue tack fixing/so easily removeable if desired. If you look at the images, you probably wouldn’t know the left arm has been repaired this way….. But i always try to be honest. MOTORCLE RIDER SITS GREAT ON HIS OLD SADDLE. WITH A CAREFUL WIND UP OF THE ANCIENT MECHANISM….. SEE SHORT CLIP BELOW AS THE MOTORCYCLE RIDES ABOUT VERY NICELY. RARE EARLY GERMAN TOY DISPLAYS REALLY WELL & STILL WORKS GREAT. Rare Hugo Berger For Goberg /germany Arts & Crafts Early 20th C Iron Candlestick

RARE HUGO BERGER for GOBERG (GER MA NY) EARLY 20TH CENTURY ANTIQUE SIGNED ARTS & CRAFTS HAND TOOLED, IRON HANDLED CANDLESTICK. W/SIDE HANDLE, WAX COLLECTION RESERVOIR. Antique Arts & Crafts hand tooled iron. 7 ¼” Height x 5 ½” Width (base) x 4 top Width. Offered is this very scarce, signed, early 20th century antique Arts and Crafts tooled iron handled candlestick by Hugo Berger for Goberg Ger ma ny. It was produced at the turn-of-the century around 1910, so 1900 to 1915 would be the best approximate time it was manufactured in Ger ma ny. It possesses some of the quickly recognizable characteristics and hallmark design monikers that came to distinguish Arts and Crafts antique forms. Notably, was the tooled, hammered, heavy gauge sheet iron used in its spare, angular conceptual vision. The center, ascending collared stem of the candlestick, has hammered pits that resemble vertical grains of rice. The side handle is large but instead of being curvilinear where it turns, it instead is informed by a more abrupt, angular shape. The top of the candlestick has two prominent forms. The first being the wax candle receiving port. The 2nd being the upturned concave wax collection reservoir basin. The bottom plate is hammered with four rays emanating from the center, resembling ancient Celtic or Paleolithic hieroglyphs. These are hammered and tooled into the iron plate’s surface. Raised, bas-relief pimples or dots also inform the surface of the base plate of the candlestick. It is stamped on the underside of the base with’Germany. It is a fully integrated, very thoroughly conceived Arts and Crafts candlestick in nearly every way. It would be difficult to think of one single element that could be significantly changed or altered without somehow debilitating the strength of the original design and what has made these now nearly 110 year-old decorative objects, still so coveted and desirable, even today. Great form, great color and great surfaces make this antique Hugo Berger for Goberg (Ger ma ny) Arts and Crafts tooled iron candlestick a great antique decorative object. One of the earliest and rarest of the Oswald Rolling Eye Clocks. Black Forest region carved wood clock. Prewar late 1920s early 1930s. One eye is the hours and one the minutes. This gives the fun effect of looking right, then cross eyed, then wall eyed, the left as the eyes turn at different speeds. About 3.5 inches tall. Fine example of the early carved wood before they moved to composition. Bear is wire jointed and can be displayed standing, sitting, or on all fours. Very nicely cast and decorated in high detail, in typical fashion for Hertwig dolls, bears and other figures. Item is unmarked, but these are known Hertwig products. Item measures about 3 inches (7.6 cm) tall when standing. Note a rare polar bear on a separate listing! No chips or cracks.
