This listing is for an early-1900s antique topsy turvy doll. The doll is white on one end and black on the other. The doll is all cloth, hand-sewn, and hand-painted (face). The doll is decades old, and shows a bit of age. There are no tears or “worn” spots on the doll, but cloth does show some discoloration on the white aprons and white face – it has “browned” a bit, as white cloth tends to do with age. Rare mysterious early china boy doll Meissen Dornheim

Antique vintage gold metal lace braid ribbon tape trim. Rare mysterious early china boy doll Meissen? For the knowing collector. This for sure very early rare boy is giving some enigma of it´s maker. Having the crossed swords inside it´s head what could attribute him to Dornheim, Koch & Fischer. Dornheim, Koch & Fischer was a small German doll head maker wellknown for it´s high quality and very rare. Meissen would be a little sensation. I leave it to the knowing collector to evaluate. The head is fine molded and painted. Blue expressive eyes with red line. Fine painted and molded moth giving the impression of a slight smiling. Unfortunately a piece of shoulder is brocken off, a tiny part is missing. A nearly not to see hairline crack on the neck runs up to the hairdo on the back. Early great leatherbody in great condition for age with fine fingers and wasp waist. Marks and holes where the head was attached shows that the head allways originally has been attached to this body. However this is a rare early china doll for the appreciative collector of early china dolls. Size Head: 4.1/2 – 11.5 cm. Size Body: 14 – 35 cm. Size Head + Body: 17-1/4 – 44 cm. Condition: with normal signs due to age, minimal disparitys or fails can be found caused to natural of item. More Arms – Legs – Heads – Eyes – on request. Original – not new or repainted. RARE early BABYLAND RAG, antique cloth, TOPSY-TURVY double-sided doll 12

From an extensive private collection… This darling, original two-in-one, “topsy-turvy”, “Topsy & Eva” , black and white cloth doll, circa 1908, is a very hard to find example of this charming double-doll. They are 12″ tall, all stuffed cloth and manufactured by Babyland Rag and shown in the 9th Blue Book and on pages 61-67, “Cloth Dolls Edwards. They have beautifully printed, photographic type faces with printed blond hair on the white child and black hair on the black child. They wear all their original (bias trimmed) pretty red plaid clothing, matching plaid printed prairie bonnet with ruffle , red bandanna as well as the original trimmed white apron top. Both have sweet expressions and movable arms with mitt-type hands and separate thumbs (the black doll hands need mending, fabric age split in back of bonnet, hard to see). The plaid printed skirt can be flipped to cover the opposite doll. It looks as if the black doll was the most played with in this case. Whatever their origin, these exceptional dolls still retain all of their charm despite their age related darkening. (loc 51) They are in generally good condition (although needing cleaning) with no stains, fading or repairs and are from a smoke free home. We have several of these fascinating dolls, currently listed, each by different manufacturers, all original and slightly different either in headdress or clothing. They make a terrific study when viewed together. Dolls in last 5 photos are not included and each is listed separately. GORGEOUS Rare Early Antique Bahr Proschild Belton Type Dome Head Doll Mold 309. This is an early 18 tall B&P doll made in Germany. She is incised “309 9″ on the rear of her shoulderplate. She has no damage to her very pale bisque shoulderhead or her delicately sculpted hands and fingers. Her eyes are absolutely stunning- they remind me of the paperweight eyes seen on French dolls of the same time period. Her body is leaking saw dust and is fragile so her new owner may want to make repairs. Her lovely antique dress fits her perfectly and covers much newer undergarments. The mohair wig is vintage as is the vevet hat- she is truly an outstanding beautiful antique doll! All original this is one of the rarest and best Grodnertal dolls from our collection which after many years we are now downsizing. She is fully jointed at the elbows and knees with sculpted hands and feet. She has a carved wooden head reflecting wavy hair and a protruding nose. All original paintwork and decoration in exceptionally good condition. Over 100 years old and very unusual for Grodnertal. She is dressed in original silk and antique lace dress with undergarments. One of the earliest examples with tiny boot button eyes (4mm), jointed head, arms and legs. She has tufty, stone-coloured mohair hair and a non-original vintage dress. 11 or 28cm tall. Margarete Steiff originally made soft toys, usually from felt and later mohair. Her jointed animals became hugely popular and she branched out into doll making, at first with dolls like this with boot button eyes and later with small blue glass eyes (see my other listing). Extremely rare pre First World War Steiff soldier. Painted hair, eyebrows and mouth. Dark blue felt long jacket with high red collar, epaulettes and 8 original 5mm Steiff buttons (2 missing) on front and 2 on coat tails. Fine leather shoes with felt under soles. Two silk additions in French flag colours on metallic flat cord, both hand sewn and hanging from original metallic braid shoulder straps. Chain around waist with remnants of braid and red felt where a sword hung. Stitching and braid remnants to palm of right hand suggests sword was attached to the hand at some point. This is one of my most precious little cabinet sized dolls. She stands about 11 1/2 inches tall marked on the back of her head 277. She is a rare early Bahr Proschild doll made in Germany. Her chocolate brown bisque socket head is free from chips, cracks or hairlines… She does have some wig pulls, please see photo. Composition body in nice condition with expected age related wear, strung well and holds a pose. She has a replacement dark aubergine color curly mohair wig which is so sassy cute on her along with 2 antique pins pulling back her thick mane of curls. She has an innocent doe-eyed look with her large stationary spiral amber glass eyes. Original painted coral lip color, pretty little porcelain teeth and pierced ears with vintage faux pearl earrings. Dressed in a vintage lavender and lace silk blend dress w/ purple bow, original chemise, antique stockings and shoes giving her a sweet coordinated look. Clothing has age soiling. Really beautiful, Circa 1850, pink tint covered wagon china doll. Only 7 tall, the detail on her face is amazing! Appears to have original body but the hands may have been replaced. I believe her dress is old but may not be as old as she is. Underclothes appear to be original. China is in good shape. I believe shes a Kestner.
