Antique Rare Coalport Early 19thc Lidded Tureen Swan Owl Emblem Insignia Gilded
Posted by admin On December 9, 2022
Early 19th century Coalport lidded tureen. Ornate gilded handle/finial and gold gilding to lid and base. Unusual hand painted swan emblem to one side and an owl to the other. Some time ago, I came across the meaning of the swan which looks like it is breathing fire but annoyingly I have not been able to find it since. Dates to first half of 19th century so no backstamp. Condition is very good for age. There is a small hole in the gilding of the handle but this has been caused during manufacture. The gilding is vibrant on the lid but there is loss to the rim of the base. A small firing flaw to the base which does not affect in any way. Not perfect but almost for an item of over 150 years! How good it would be to find this set. This item is in the category “Collectables\Kitchen & Home\Dinnerware & Serveware\Tureens”. The seller is “sterling1952″ and is located in this country: GB. Rare Hand Painted Antique Coalport Bone China Figurine -1920’s + BONUS
Posted by admin On November 21, 2022
With reference to its base marks, this fine “Abigail” figurine is hand painted with the artists signature visible. It has been in the family for generations and can safely assume that it was painted circa. With reference to more modern versions of “Abigail” which are apparently not hand painted, the positioning and details of the painted flowers on the white dress are quite different and thus unique. The Labrador dog itself is clearly differently painted to that seen on more recent reproductions. When Wedgwood took over Coalport in 1967 they did a number of reproductions of figurines. THIS IS THE ORIGINAL RUN, AND IS NUMBERED “54” ON THE BASE. This offering is in a excellent condition and unblemished in all respects and do justice to serious collectors of Coalport fine china wares. IT appears to have a number “33”, but I could be mistaken. Additional photo’s are available on request. All statements made in good faith and based on recent research.
