RARE 1930s/ EARLY 40s ERA ANTIQUE NAVAJO CORN KACHINA with STAND NATIVE AMERICAN
Posted by admin On September 16, 2019

RARE 1930s/ 40s ERA ANTIQUE NAVAJO CORN KACHINA w/ STAND NATIVE AMERICAN. This is a very rare find. This is an antique Navajo kachina hand-carved out of a cottonwood representing one of the Corn Kachina. This kachina has been dated to around the 1930s/ early 40s by Mark Bahti of Bahti Indian Arts of Tucson and Santa Fe, paperwork will be included. The paperwork from Mark Bahti constitutes a professional analysis of the kachina, tribe and materials. This rare kachina falls into the Navajo folk art category. That being said, it is an incredible piece. This antique Native American, Corn kachina stands approximately 9-1/2″ tall in the stand, approximately 9-1/4″ tall out of the stand, approximately 4″ wide across the body and approximately 3″ deep including the nose. The body area is approximately 1-1/2 deep. One of the hands is missing and one of the feet has been glued back together, please see photos. Bahti feels this kachina was painted with one of the original type of poster paints and that the green paint is a type of mineral paint. The ruff was constructed out of a very old washcloth, cotton yarn for the belt that appears to be homespun. He did not state what he thought the skirt material was. There are very old feathers inserted into the top of the head for hair, most of which have rubbed away or broken off over the years. This kachina has a few stains, some splits in the wood, scratches and some rub to it, but in spite of that, it is in remarkably good condition for a kachina that is nearly 100 years old. It was originally designed to be hung by the neck as traditional Hopi kachinas are, but I have included a stand for your convenience. It can be displayed either way. This unique kachina was carved out of cottonwood This rare kachina would be an outstanding addition to any Western or Native American collection! Don’t forget to take a look at our other sales for more unique items. The item “RARE 1930s/ EARLY 40s ERA ANTIQUE NAVAJO CORN KACHINA with STAND NATIVE AMERICAN” is in sale since Wednesday, July 31, 2019. This item is in the category “Antiques\Ethnographic\Native American”. The seller is “past_impressions” and is located in Sahuarita, Arizona. This item can be shipped worldwide.

Extremely RARE and Unusual Early American Electric Bear c1908
Posted by admin On August 25, 2019

Extremely Rare & Unusual Early American Electric Bear. Electric Growler Battery Operated. Wood Wool And Cork Chips Stuffed. This is a very unusual bear that I cannot find in any books; the nearest I can find is electric eyed bears made by a few early American bear manufacturers like Fast Black Skirt Company (New York City) among others. This was maybe a prototype that didn’t catch on as it would have made a buzzing sound rather than a growl. The bear was untouched when he came to me but I was intrigued by the Bakelite button under his left arm and so had to open his rear seam to investigate. What I discovered was a Bakelite buzzer mechanism operated by a very old form battery and a bear stuffed with a mixture of wood wool and cork chips. This along with the remains of a cloth nose lead me to think that he is very early. Also he has boot button eyes that appear to be original and not replacements for electric eyes. He has jointed limbs but a fixed head and is very solidly stuffed. He has pads of a felt / brushed cotton material that appear to me to be original and in good condition. He retains at least 70% of his mohair and has three claws on each limb. He wears his red knitted top that he came with which gives him a Pooh bear look. If you are looking for the unusual bear to join your hug then Amos could be the bear for you. He came to us along with Morris who is also for sale. The item “Extremely RARE and Unusual Early American Electric Bear c1908″ is in sale since Sunday, August 25, 2019. This item is in the category “Dolls & Bears\Bears\Antique”. The seller is “moosear21david” and is located in Bexhill-on-Sea. This item can be shipped worldwide.

RARE Antique Primitive Early American Folk Tramp Art Heart Wood Picture Frame
Posted by admin On May 24, 2019

Very unusual and rare piece of Early American history! This tramp art frame is a great piece of folk art, with wooden hearts on each corner and splayed wooden pieces coming out from each side of the frame, each one hand carved. It is pretty deep, so it could have originally been used as a shadow box for a mourning wreath or something else. Hangs horizontally, but could be changed to hang vertically. Measurements: 17″ tall x 20″ wide x 2 deep. Inside of frame: 9.5″ x 6.5″. Condition: In as found condition. Will need a back, wire, and glass for framing. Also, missing half of one of the hearts. One of the pieces on the sides moves and it may be missing a decorative piece on the side, hard to tell. For its age, it is actually in pretty decent shape. The item “RARE Antique Primitive Early American Folk Tramp Art Heart Wood Picture Frame” is in sale since Thursday, May 23, 2019. This item is in the category “Art\Folk Art & Indigenous Art”. The seller is “feather-stone” and is located in Fennville, Michigan.
