A RARE 19th CENTURY OLD ORIGINAL EARLY”CASH GROCERIES” SAND PAINT WOOD TRADE SIGN. A genuine original 1800s hanging groceries sign. This sign measures 47” x 18” x 1” and is double sided with each side reading different proprietors. The paint is early black sand paint with smooth silverish lettering having exceptional authentic age character. There is an old repair to a split along the length. Not too noticeable at all especially on the one side. The sign has the original early sign painters makers mark in the bottom middle of the one side. A very nice size for wall display. Welcome to Antiques & Moore! This listing is for a gorgeous antique Pietra Dura hard stone inlaid on marble obelisk. This nice obelisk is made of black marble and features a panel with Pietra Dura hard stone inlay in a floral design with beautiful coloration in the stones. Measures 16 12″ high with the square base measuring 4 7/8″ in diameter. Weights 5.3 pounds. This unusual obelisk is in excellent Estate condition with only some small nicks in the marble as expected with items of this age. The flaws are minor no-harm nicks around the bottom edges otherwise the piece is in excellent condition. The Pietra Dura inlaid design is in excellent condition with no noted flaws. A very fine and rare unusually large early 19. Century gilt brass Japanese bracket / table clock or Makura Dokei in need of restoration. The plated lantern type spring driven movement with balance wheel and verge escapement, the balance with silk suspension. Originally with striking and datework. Gilt brass case/frame beautifully engraved with foliate sprays and devices. Beautifully turned frame pillars. The going train is complete. A very fine and rare clock but in need of careful restoration. Please see images below. In unrestored condition and as seen. The whole clock retains its original gilding in exceptionally good condition. The movement is in very good condition but missing the striking train, he date wheels and the adjustable hour markers for the dial. The bow of the steel hand has broken off and is missing. The bell is original and rings perfectly. Overall height of clock to top of bell finial 13 cm (5 1/8). Top and bottom plates 11.7 cm x 6.4 cm 4 5. /8 x 2 1/2. Height frame excluding finials 8.8 cm (3 3/8). Packed weight 1.8 kg. Size 29 x 28 x 19 cm. Very rare and large Chinese 19th C. Shiwan-glazed mudman woman lady figure, a massive 65 cm or 25 inches in height, wearing a turquoise-glazed robe with streaks of emerald green, blood red and purple over a cream-tone white dress, with a long shawl of the same creamy colour wrapping the shoulders, with the extremities reaching the yellow ochre base or plinth. Her face unglazed and of a dark-sepia tone (please note the same treatment of the right-hand thumb emerging from the sleeve) crowned by an elaborate headdress of ochre-dark brown colour terminating in a cross-shaped bun on the back of the head. PLEASE NOTE: real colours are more brilliant and intense than in the photographs. The statue appears to be in overall very good condition, and all I can see is a small chip on both the extremities of the shawl (where they touch the plinth), a minor chip on one of the holes around the base (the fissure under it seems to be just a kiln flaw), a possible repair on one of those ends, and possibly some minor restorations around the headdress like the tip of the crown (please see the pictures). Note the pierced earlobes and the holes around the head (behind the crown) for possible attachments. It comes with its original certificate, issued by King Arts Company of Hong Kong in April 1962 and signed by the Company’s manager, Mr King. It is the original document and not a copy, and it bears the stamped and numbered photo of the object. Provenance: found in an Italian private collection, it was acquired with other important Chinese artefacts in Hong Kong in 1962, by the uncle of the previous owner. It is absolutely fresh to the market. I will be more accurate once the destination is known, so please wait for the correct invoice before paying. Otherwise it will be at your own risk.
