Swimming in the right direction? Extremely Rare Late 17th Early 18th Century Dutch Netherlands Marine Compass!!!! I say amaZingly because it is one of the most advanced designs of compasses for its time that I have come across! The needle is half white steel and half blackened steel, the white portion points North perhaps since Europeans are generally speaking white at that time, while the South is blackened since the south is primarily inhabited by darker folks, regardless the two different colors make it much easier and thus faster to differentiate between North and South, and the shape of the needle makes it much easier to follow even by someone with poor eye sight, extremely intelligent. Most likely created for the Dutch East India or Dutch West India Company, which could not function with-out such devices, the GPS of its time. It is the only compass I have eVer seen with a Z for south (Zuiden), which clearly and definitively indicate the compass is Dutch. The measurements of the wooden case are approximately 10.2 cm x 9.35 cm x 3.55 cm (4″ x 3 10.8/16″ x 1 6.5/16). The brass ring surrounding the compass is approximately 8.75 cm (3 7/16) in diameter. On the brass portion, the decorations, lines, and arabic numerals were all hand engraved by one of the worlds unknown but best compass makers I have eVer encountered. I have seen a Dutch? Compass, I inserted a question mark because the South was an S and not a Z, and of what I deem of much lesser quality fetch a sum of approximately 55 thousand USDs! So price-wise this beauty is a gift! The wooden case box is partially cracked on both sides, the crystal glass has some scratches as can be observed on the upper right quadrant of the second image and the upper left quadrant of the 5th image, and some points of oxidation (darker colored areas), but remains a fully functional and beautiful compass worthy of any museum! A great addition to any museum quality marine or scientific collection! Definitely a gift for any high level intellectual mind! Please feel free to check out my other Museum Quality Collection. For the year of our Lord 2019 I wish you a Merry Christmas & Happy New Year. Sail Wisely & God Bless. A VERY RARE Chinese porcelain small dish, early 18th century. Hand painted with a Famille Verte / Rose pattern. It is extremely finely potted and VERY light. LOVELY CONDITION, and I note only two minute frits/chips to the rim back edge, and what looks like an extremely fine glaze line which I only seem to be able to see in a certain light from the back. Rare , Solid Elm throughout , Antique , Attractive and Characterful Knee-Hole Fall-front Bureau. Elm pieces of this age are uncommon. Constructed from well figured elm planks with single planking to either side and top. Having a good colour and well cared for patina. Country/ Vernacular in style. Thought to be late 18th early 19th C. The fall-front supported by 2 sliding support rails revealing a fitted interior with 2 drawers and pigeon-holes. Central draw with brass handles, associated brass escutcheons. Door fronted cupboards to either side of the knee-hole each with a midway shelf. Some slight historic warping to drawer and fall front section , but in sellers opinion adds to the charm and character. No key to locks , (fall front , drawer and cupboards not lockable). Some historic and extinct furniture beetle activity to lining of the drawer and treated as a precautionary measure. Small imperfections commensurate with age. Rare 18th Century Early Meissen Antique German Porcelain Dove Pigeon Tureen

Rare 18th Century Early Meissen Antique German Porcelain Dove Pigeon Tureen
RARE 18TH CENTURY EARLY MEISSEN ANTIQUE GERMAN PORCELAIN DOVE PIGEON TUREEN. EXCEPTIONALLY FINE AND RARE EARLY MEISSEN LIDDED SAUCE TUREEN. Presenting a magnificent 18th Century soft paste porcelain tureen and cover naturalistically modelled into the of a nesting dove / pigeon. This exceptional example was produced by the quality German makers, Meissen, circa mid to late 1700s. The beautifully modelled dove is seated upon a basket moulded base with applied shredded clay foliage trimming the top of the nest. This piece is wonderfully finished in naturalistic glazes. This piece is presented in very good antique condition with some exceptionally minor losses to the shredded clay foliage noticeable only on extremely close examination but mentioned for complete accuracy. There appears to be a minor old repair to one side of the birds tail which has been professionally done and incredibly hard to spot. We had to take a magnifyer to the piece and even then it was hard to detect. There is a minuscule fleabite sized nibble to the top of the crest upon the birds head and the tiniest rough spot to the tip of the birds beak. There is some internal staining which we have not attempted to bleach out or remove in any way and should be able to be lessened in the new owners preferred manner. Light overall surface crazing mentioned for accuracy. This authentic antique example has survived exceptionally well and presents spectacularly. The unglazed base is beautifully marked with Meissen’s brushed blue crossed swords. This impressive piece stands approx 120mms tall, measures 195mms in length and 78mms in width. Early Meissen examples such as this fine figural tureen are highly desirable and feature in top Museum collections. This stunning piece would make an outstanding addition to any early Meissen, quality antique porcelain or figural tureen collection!
