Exceptionally Rare Early 18th Century Gold & Tortoiseshell Mounted Scissor Case
An exceptionally rare 18th Century Gold and Tortoiseshell Mounted Scissor Case, circa 1700- 1740, the front and back decorated with pique point work of flowers, laurels and butterflies, the sides with a double leaf border, the hinged lid opening to reveal a recess, a pair of later steel scissors that are present. This would have been owned by an exceptionally wealthy and probably important person of their day, this would have cost a small fortune back around the early 1700s. A piece that really should be in a museum. Without a doubt the most exquisite early item I have ever had the pleasure of owning, the damage can be seen in the photos, however, the rarity and beauty of the workmanship override this in my opinion. The lower half has damage to one edge (see last photo), some damage to just below the reverse of the hinge section missing. Small areas of gold loss. The button release works perfectly, small loss of shell by the button, and the inner frame is gold lined. This really is a museum piece. All Items – Porcelain, china, general antiques & Collectables: Please note that all our items are second hand, vintage and antique unless stated otherwise. Therefore, ALL items will have small marks, irregularities and wear commensurate with age and use. We will always describe obvious damage but not every tiny little imperfection – please see photos for condition. Watches: These are not serviced and no guarantee of perfo. Rmance is offered, although we will point out any obvious issues we are aware of. Our feedback speaks for itself 100%. We work hard to maintain this level. If you have a zero feedback. Any props to rest or display items are not included within the sale. Our feedback is at 100% for a reason, we are fair and honest and work hard to maintain this level. Thank you very much. Extremely rare early 18th Century baby cot coverlet with provenance from 1705
Extraordinarily rare early 18th Century, dating from 1705 babys cot coverlet also used for family christenings for many generations. The condition of the fabric is strong, no holes – completely hand made with distinctive 18thC embroidery and pink silk piping along the edges. There are some stains which would be expected with age and an item that has been used and are. There is a provenance label sewn into a corner from 1882 that dates the coverlet used by eight generations from 1705. Would be a wonderful gift for a new baby or collectors item.
