Rare 18th C. Early Colonial Coin Silver Rattail Dessert Spoon
This rare and handsome piece remains in varying condition (please see condition report for specifics and exceptions), bears no monogram or erasure, and lays in wait for the collector! I have had so many inquiries about the hallmark. I took this to Skinner Auctions and they immediately identified it as James Geddy. They do not do authentications unless you pay. I have finally located their source. Many have not because it is under the name James Geddes-same person son of gunsmith James Geddes of Williamsburg Va. Please scroll through the photos until you come across the Ensko Guide to American Silversmiths- a must have reference for early coin. Decide for yourself please. Length: 6 1/4in (16cm). Weight: 0.87 troy oz (27g). The item “RARE 18TH C. EARLY COLONIAL COIN SILVER RATTAIL DESSERT SPOON” is in sale since Thursday, April 16, 2020. Here is a true rarity in antique lighting… A miniature 18th or early 19th century 2-candle “chandelier”… And I’m calling it a chandelier only because its designed to be hung. Overall width is 9 3/4″, height, excluding the two sections of wire for hanging, 7 3/4″ (the two wire sections add 11 1/2). The sole apology is the small age crack shown in my 7th picture and the tack someone inserted many moons ago for no apparent reason. Rare Antique Early 18th Century Continental Silver Vinaigrette / Pomander C. 1700
Rare Antique Early 18th Century Continental Silver Vinaigrette / Pomander C. This is a fabulous and rare survivor from the early 18th century, circa 1700 – 1720. This attractive little box is an early form of vinaigrette or pomander and would of contained forms of perfume such as fragrant herbs, ambergris or scented resins. The box is round in form and made in two parts, with the lid simply pushing into place. The lid has been decorated in the repousse manner and has chased detailing to the upper side – as can be seen in the images, this takes the form of foliage, a bird and what appears to be a pomegranate. Around the outside edge of the lid is a decorative frill border, which seems to be a common feature on these types of early boxes. Importantly, the silver has been pierced through so that the enclosed scent can be accessed without removing the lid. Sanitation and general hygiene in the 16th century through to the 19th century was a world away from what it is now, and the putrid stench of streets awash with waste and general detritus meant that devices such as this were essential for ladies and gents of standing. A waft under the nose might prevent a lady’falling into a swoon’. The inside of the box shows traces of its original gilding, put there primarily as a protection for the silver from any potential corrosive qualities of the perfume – this gilding is more apparent to the inside of the lid. As is commonly seen with these early vinaigrette’s, there are no marks whatsoever to the silver. I actually took some specialist advice from a well known expert in early silver and it was his opinion that the piece was either Dutch or German, with him actually favouring it being German on account of the style of repousee work (if you’d like to know who I consulted, please contact me). The advised date of the item is circa 1700 – 1720, though some similar examples have an earlier attribution of circa 1680. It’s an incredible survivor from the era of the last of the Stuart monarchs, Queen Anne or the Hanoverian, George I. The box measures 5cm x 5cm x 1cm – the total unpacked weight is 13.6g. The condition all round is excellent for its age. There are some minor contact pin head sized bumps to the underside, plus an extremely minor edge knock to the rim of the base (see picture 9). There are no splits or repairs to the silver. The lid fits on snugly and retains a good shape. All round a very nice and rare example for a collector. Please study the images provided to satisfy yourself as to the condition of the item offered here – if you have any further questions please ask. Welcome to Mersham Manor Antiques-Enquiries-07510 503344. A little bit about us. We are a husband and wife team, and have spent many years developing our knowledge as collectors of fine antiques. Along the way we have restored many period properties, and have enjoyed furnishing them in our favourite ” English Country House Style” and because of our passion for anything old & beautiful, and appreciation of real quality and craftsmanship, which sadly today`s furniture generally does not offer, we decided to turn a much loved hobby / obsession! Into a business and pass our beautiful finds onto other people to enjoy. With our endless “treasure hunts” for the original and authentic, we offer a diverse selection of antique furniture and quality decorative items, ranging from the 17th century to the 20th century in all price ranges, making it possible for everyone to own a little piece of history, and true craftsmanship. We have been collectors for over 30 years and have been successfully trading for 15 of those years. We regularly work with interior designers and fellow dealers. We are happy to source any particular items you may be looking for. Our knowledge and expertise allows us to source many varied and high quality items. Our showrooms are within our beautiful. Grade I listed Medieval Manor House in the pretty village of Mersham in Kent. A fine and rare early 18th century walnut writing cabinet secretaire. Wonderful use of beautifully patinated burr and highly figured walnut on this very handsome cabinet. Having a moulded cornice over two raised and fielded panelled doors, framed by cross and feather-banding, with original working lock and key, which open to reveal an abundance of storage drawers and shelves within. To the back are 10 solid oak drawers, with original brass handles, fronted by 2 sliding shelves, which can be adjusted to suit size or completely removed. These are over a ledge with a further six larger drawers, also oak lined and having the most glorious burr-walnut fronts with feather banding and retaining the original brass handles. The secretaire drawer section fits the same key that fits the cabinet section, which pulls out and opens to reveal a quality fitted interior, with an arrangement of 5 figured walnut fronted drawers. With original brass handles, and are oak lined. With 10 pigeon holes above. The writing surface is a green, gold-tooled leather, in very good condition. This is over a chest of three long oak lined drawers. Having double half-rounded drawer dividers and matching feather banding to the drawers as above. Possibly would have originally had brass carrying handles to each side, top and bottom as there are marks to indicate this. A stunning beautifully crafted, high quality item, still very relevant for modern day use. Lovely, rich even colour and glowing warm patina. Standing on bracket feet, with later added metal castors. The top section can be removed from the base section. In excellent antique condition. Expected signs of age. Very solid sturdy and strong. The dimensions are taken at highest, widest and deepest points. Viewings are available at our showroom in Kent. Collection in person is very welcome, we are happy to help with loading. The item “Rare Early 18th Century Walnut Secretaire Writing Cabinet” is in sale since Tuesday, January 21, 2020. Thank You For Visting Fox Run Farms Antiques! Also be sure to check out our other listings this week for more examples of period metalware and antique country furnishings! This 18th century blacksmith made wrought iron candlestick is of European original origin; French or English, and brought over to America by immigrants. This was another great example of early lighting we have acquired from a collector who specialized in lighting and had assembled his collection decades ago. As you can see the piece has an adustable mechanism to the formation of the candle shaft, allowing the user to raise up the candle via the curled tabbed slider. Has a wonderful tri-legged design underneath a circular “up turned” drip pan. Retains the original top hook that would allow the piece to be transported or hung off the back of a chair when not placed atop a table. Some pitting expected for age. Candleshaft has a very slight tilt to it. All signs of age point to usage and expected wear from age. Stands approx 7 3/4 tall. Note the square nut and slightly out of round rivet to the bottom construction. Again a rare example thats been in a private collection for decades and fresh to market for the appreciator of fine lighting and early iron. Thanks for visiting us here at FoxRun-Farms! A rare and unique early 18th century longcase clock by John Bates of Kettering.. The clock is around 6 feet tall and the depth (sides) is only 4 and a half inches… The door width is 7 and a half inches, and the dial is 7 and a half inches square. The clock is very primitively made, and has an early verge type alarm with inside striking of the bell… The hood has very unusual wire hinges. This clock must be the earliest Bates of Kettering clock in existence. Rare 18th Century Early Meissen Antique German Porcelain Dove Pigeon Tureen

Rare 18th Century Early Meissen Antique German Porcelain Dove Pigeon Tureen
RARE 18TH CENTURY EARLY MEISSEN ANTIQUE GERMAN PORCELAIN DOVE PIGEON TUREEN. EXCEPTIONALLY FINE AND RARE EARLY MEISSEN LIDDED SAUCE TUREEN. Presenting a magnificent 18th Century soft paste porcelain tureen and cover naturalistically modelled into the of a nesting dove / pigeon. This exceptional example was produced by the quality German makers, Meissen, circa mid to late 1700s. The beautifully modelled dove is seated upon a basket moulded base with applied shredded clay foliage trimming the top of the nest. This piece is wonderfully finished in naturalistic glazes. This piece is presented in very good antique condition with some exceptionally minor losses to the shredded clay foliage noticeable only on extremely close examination but mentioned for complete accuracy. There appears to be a minor old repair to one side of the birds tail which has been professionally done and incredibly hard to spot. We had to take a magnifyer to the piece and even then it was hard to detect. There is a minuscule fleabite sized nibble to the top of the crest upon the birds head and the tiniest rough spot to the tip of the birds beak. There is some internal staining which we have not attempted to bleach out or remove in any way and should be able to be lessened in the new owners preferred manner. Light overall surface crazing mentioned for accuracy. This authentic antique example has survived exceptionally well and presents spectacularly. The unglazed base is beautifully marked with Meissen’s brushed blue crossed swords. This impressive piece stands approx 120mms tall, measures 195mms in length and 78mms in width. Early Meissen examples such as this fine figural tureen are highly desirable and feature in top Museum collections. This stunning piece would make an outstanding addition to any early Meissen, quality antique porcelain or figural tureen collection! Rest assured, all items are professionally packaged to the highest of standards! International buyers are most welcome. Sorry, no personal cheques accepted.
