RARE ANTIQUE EARLY 1800s BASKET WEAVE TEAPOT WEDGWOOD YELLOW WARE MINT

Dating to the early 1800s, this is one of the most spectacular and elegant small teapots you will ever find. This is the only teapot with a rim that sweeps up towards the spout and handle. The teapot is thin walled and was designed and molded by a master potter and has a finely detailed molded basket weave pattern extending around the body and lid. The lid has a small oval handle and a hole to vent steam and aid in pouring. Measuring 4 ¼ to the top of the finial by 7 ½ wide from the spout to handle, the teapot is in original mint condition with no damage or repairs. The teapot is not signed, but the design is similar to known Wedgwood teapots. This teapot does not appear in any of the books on yellow ware and looks even better in person than as shown in the photos. If you are a serious collector, this is one of the finest small teapots you could own. Made Circa early 20th century by Bauer Pottery (1909 – 1962) Los Angeles, Ca Bauer’s earliest production was plain and fancy red clay flower pots. This very hard to find example is clearly marked “GOOD LUCK 10″ on the underside and bears a four leaf clover, horse shoe and whirling log in relief on the curved stepped body with pronounced scalloped collar, a stepped rim at the top. Factory drilled for drainage. In very good overall condition – a few minor chips are covered with old light green paint – no cracks or loss. There are three holes to attach wire to hang. An early 1800s era Regency Penwork Snuffbox, with a scene from Tam O’ Shanter, arguably Robert Burns most famous and finest piece of work. Lid fits tightly onto box, hinge has been broken along full length in antiquity. This does not detract and has a positive aspect in that both aspects of box can be displayed. Still in remarkable condition for it’s age, the penwork on the lid has great attention to detail, remember this is not a transfer. Measuring almost 9cm in length and near 5cm in width with a height of 2 cm. This lovely work of art still retains a solid robust feel. May be an early example of Mauchline Ware, but I feel it is of significantly higher quality than that. Been in my home for a lifetime.
