Very Early Antique Musical Snuff Box 2 Air C. 1820 Swiss Rare Painting Scene

This little Musical Box is one of the very early types, also used as a snuff box, from about 1820. No makers name, signs or tune names! This musical snuff box would have been carried around in the gentlemans pocket and used as form of portable entertainment! What makes this a little different is the hand painted picture in the lid, decorated with a gold border and gold frame, silver tab and hinge and a tortoiseshell case. One of the main characteristics of this being an early movement is the segmented comb, it is split in to sections rather than one long piece of steel as found on later musical boxes. It also has the teeth going from treble to bass (left to right) rather than bass to treble and the governor top is vertical rather than at an angle, two signs of it being a very early piece. Another is the detail in the music, earlier boxes have much more elaborate arrangements and a gentler tone. Please watch the videos to enjoy this almost 200 year old musical antique! Here is a Beautiful & rare early Antique Oil Painting of the old Cliff House in San Fransisco California. Not completely sure when this painting was done but from looking at it, it appears antique and most likely period original from pre 1900. Painting does not appear to be signed, but it is beautifully done. This Oil on Canvas painting measures 15 inches wide & 8 1/2 inches tall (visible) – without frame. Frame measures 19 inches wide x 12 1/2 inches tall. Please see all photos for exact condition & appearance. Painting pears to be in very good condition + and the gilt carved wooden frame looks great with the painting as well. Frame has some condition wear, including some chipping- see photos. Up for your consideration is a rare early 19th C. Indian Patna painting, c. Patna School of Painting. Is a style of Indian Painting, which existed in Bihar, India. In the 18th and 19th centuries. These are artistically unique in that this. Was the world’s first independent schools of painting which dealt exclusively with the commoner and his lifestyle. The painting is possibly painted on stretched animal skin, and is gouache, with some gold highlights. The frame is original, and made of black (and cinnabar on the back) lacquered wood that has been meticulously hand-decorated in gold. The artwork measures 12.75″ x 8.5″, and the outer dimensions of the frame are 18.5″ x 14.25″. The painting is in excellent condition, free of chips, cracks, or paint loss. The frame shows moderate wear to the corners and raised portions, and the gold in the inner beveled strip, just below the painting shows substantial wear from dusting over the last two centuries. Rare Antique Early 1900’s Portrait Oil On Canvas Painting FORBES

Portrait of a Lady In Wide Brimmed Hat Besides A Window. A rare study of a lady in white attire, floral wide brimmed hat and foliage to the left section of the painting. Overall a charming study. Inscribed with the artists name to the reverse of the canvas. The painting is housed in a good frame which compliments the painting well. About Stanhope Alexander Forbes. Forbes was born in Dublin, the son of Juliette de Guise Forbes, a French woman, and William Forbes, an English railway manager, who was later transferred to London. He had an older brother named William, who, like his father, was a railway manager; William worked for the London, Brighton, and South Coast Railway. He was married in the summer of 1889 to fellow painter Elizabeth Armstrong at Newlyn’s St Peter’s Church. Their first home was at the “Cliffs Castle” cottage, which overlooked the sea. They had a son named Alexander, nicknamed Alec. The couple had a home built for the family in Higher Faughan, Penzance. Elizabeth died in 1912. In 1915, Forbes remarried friend and previous student Maudie Palmer, who had been assistant, helper and friend to the whole Forbes family. During the First World War Forbes’ son Alec served under the Duke of Cornwall’s Light Infantry. Alec died on the battlefield in August, 1916. Forbes died in Newlyn on 2 March 1947 at the age of 89. He was buried in the churchyard of Sancreed Parish Church. Modern frame is in good condition as well. Framed: W: 55 cm (21 1/2″) x H: 67 cm (26 1/2″) approx.
