Rare Antique Children Carousel Horse, Germany early 20th Century. A wooden carved children’s carousel, stallion with polychrome painting, made in Germany around 1910. Original unrestored condition, partially repainted, traces of use according to the old age, some minor imperfections. A great addition to any sophisticated interior decoration. The first carousel horses were created in the 18th century for the entertainment of aristocrats. The enthusiasm spread to broad sections of the population and the Vienna Prater was opened with a carousel in 1766. Germany developed into a center of carousel construction. Famous manufacturers included Friedrich Heyn, Hermann Thümmel, Karl Müller and Fritz Botmann. The artfully carved horses and classic carriages were supplemented with exotic animals such as lions, tigers, giraffes, zebras and elephants. Pioneers of the first generation of showmen in the United States were Gustav A. Loof and Frank Hrubetz, who designed and constructed great rides. The world wars of the 20th century meant the end of carousel art. Many originals were destroyed and replaced by plastic copies. ANOTHER RARE ITEM FROM MY ANTIQUECOLLECTION2020. OFFERED TODAY IS THIS VERY RARE 1906 NEWBURY RACECOURSE COLOUR PRINT RACE PROGRAMME. NEWBURY RACECOURSE WAS FOUNDED IN 1905 SO THIS IS A VERY RARE ITEM INDEED. OWNED BY LIEUTENANT COMMANDER ARTHUR CHARLES FAWSETT D. IN EXCELLENT CONDITION FOR ITS AGE! NOW PRICED TO SELL! Offered for sale today is this important historical Newbury racecourse racing programme. Found in a collection of personal family history papers from the late Arthur Charles Fawsett who was in the Royal Navy and was awarded the D. O for heroic action during World war 1. This is just a snippet of his life where on the reverse of the programme he has written’On leave from HMS Good Hope who was refitting at Portsmouth after grounding at Plymouth’ followed by a list of people that he went with. The programme is in very good condition considering its age. It has a colour front with a picture of a horse and rider and is dated to 1906. All staples are present. Light foxing in places and edge bumps etc as you would expect to find on a piece of ephemera of this age. The programme measures 140mm across by 143mm in length. A REAL PIECE OF HORSERACING HISTORY. There is NO exception. I have described all of my items to the best of my knowledge. You may only return an item if there was a mistake made by me in the description of the item that I have overlooked.

RARE LATE 19TH-EARLY 20TH CENTURY ANTIQUE CHINESE HAND CARVED & HAND PAINTED WOODEN BATTLE HORSE with LONG SADDLE on RAISED PEDESTAL BASE. Late 19th to early 20th century Qing Dynasty hand carved & hand painted wood sculpture. 11 3/4″ Height x 3″ Depth x 9 1/2 Width. 100% untouched and undisturbed. Offered for your review and consideration is this simply wonderful, estate fresh and absolutely uncompromised late 19th to early 20th century Chinese antique polychrome, wood-carved standing horse figure on a raised pedestal base. The figure is completely hand carved and hand painted with charcoal black, deep reddish burnt sienna and gold enamel paint. The figure is from the imperial Qing Dynasty and showcases a Chinese war or battle horse, with front coiled satchel used to carry possibly ammunition, black powder or lead balls, if the rider was armed with a musket. The large leather saddle, possibly a ceremonial one, has long, highly decorative side protection plates and has a sculpted form, allowing the rider to sit snugly and free up his arms holding a bow and arrow or even possibly a musket. The entire horse figure stands on attention poised atop a four ringed raised, pedestal platform and is banded with fluctuating red and black stripes of color. The entire figure is painted by hand with the base plate remaining unpainted. It was carved from a single wood block. Fantastic original paint and original surfaces. There’s some minor to moderate paint loss in places on the horse figure and on the raised pedestal platform base. No attempt has been made to’in-paint’ or to remediate these episodes of paint loss. It remains, undusted, unrinsed and untouched. It’s the same as when it was taken from the Massachusetts estate from where it was first discovered. An extraordinary late 19th to early 20th century Chinese antique artifact, if only because it remains completely unbastardized and left alone. Beautiful Chinese folk art wood carving and quick, gestural, kinetic enamel paint decoration, make this particular Chinese polychrome carved wooden war horse figure, a truly lost gem.
