This listing is for a Rare Early Antique White / Off White Glazed Terracotta Architectural Fountain Centerpiece of a Child / Boy / Cupid / Putti , wrestling a Fish / Dolphin, Possibly a Greek / Roman mythological creatures Subject. Fish mouth is open and water routes from the underside and comes out the fish’s mouth. 9 3/4 inches by 9/7/8 inches by 30 1/4 inches in overall height with a net weight of approximately 68 lbs unpacked. In as is / as shown condition with loss on one side to fish and putti’s hands and other loss as shown. The piece itself is solid and these losses are possibly as a result of a physical damage like fall or something like that. Item itself is solid and repair will be possible and straight forward to a professional. Amazing posture and face and body on the Putti, Material and construction and glaze all put this piece in 1800’s or perhaps earlier time frame. You have not seen one like it , you will not see one like it. An absolutely amazing piece. Crazed glaze harmonious with its age. Lightly and thoroughly cleaned. Description: One (1) round bronze pin tray with a “Fish” in relief swimming. Created by renowned artist Edward T. Hurley – aka E. Engraved on the bottom is the artists signature initials ETH. Hurley studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati where he excelled in drypoint etching under the tutelage of noted painter Frank Duveneck. Hurley was also an accomplished painter and went on to work as a decorator for the renowned Cincinnati based Rookwood Pottery company. In addition, the artist produced a variety of work on his own including sketches and works executed in watercolor, pastel and oil. Hurley also worked with metal and sculpted a variety of pieces in bronze. His bronze pieces are rare and avidly collected. Here’s a float that doesn’t come to market very often. A large deep tobacco amber egg float. This is the variant with the mold seam running around the float. It stands 6.5″ tall x 4.75″ diam. Wonderful large globby perfectly formed seal. There is one small “ice pick” type chip on the shoulder and a flat open skin air bubble. A number of small undisolved sand grains and great crude texture to the glass. Here’s an opportunity to own one of the earliest glass fish floats ever made.
