Rare William & Mary English Provincial silver trefid spoon Tiverton c1689
A rare English Provincial West Country silver trefid spoon with a ribbed rat tail, inscribed’E over I. M 1689′, struck three times on the stem with the town mark’T’ for Tiverton. Study stem and pleasing feel, terrific collector’s spoon. This rare spoon is in lovely collector’s condition having a good patina, nice marks, with some age-related wear mainly to the edge of the bowl, which is thin. Late 17th century town mark’T’ for Tiverton c 1689. Britannia silver is an alloy of silver containing 11 ounces and 10 pennyweight silver in the pound troy, equivalent to 95.83% by weight silver, the balance being usually copper. This higher standard of silver content of 958 parts per thousand was introduced in England by Act of Parliament in 1697 to replace sterling silver (92.5% silver) as the obligatory standard for items of “wrought plate”. The lion passant gardant hallmark denoting sterling was replaced with “the figure of a woman commonly called Britannia”, and the leopard’s head mark of the Worshipful Company of Goldsmiths replaced with a “lion’s head erased”. Britannia standard silver was introduced as part of the great recoinage scheme of William III from 1696, when attempts were made to limit the clipping and melting of sterling silver coinage. A higher standard for wrought plate meant that sterling silver coins could not easily be used as a source of raw material because additional fine silver, which was in short supply at the time, would have to be added to bring the purity of the alloy up to the higher standard. Britannia silver is considerably softer than sterling, and after complaints from the trade sterling silver was authorised again for use by silversmiths from 1 June 1720, and thereafter Britannia silver has remained an optional standard for hallmarking in the United Kingdom and Ireland. I have many stunning pieces of collector’s silver in my shop, please look at my other items. I aim only to list antique silver items that are without damage, repair, alteration or undue wear. My silver pieces are ideal as special gifts, for collectors, for investors, or for resale by dealers. I provide clear descriptions and photos. The silver is photographed in flat natural light, but silver is so reflective that black spots from the camera and other reflections are sometimes unavoidable. Please check the dimensions of the object carefully as apparent size can be deceptive. Bank details provided on request. Sizes, weights etc are all approximate. This item is in the category “Antiques\Silver\Solid Silver\Cutlery”. The seller is “carlyonsilver” and is located in this country: GB. This item can be shipped worldwide.

Superb Rare Antique (1746) English King George II Uncirculated Silver Half Crown
Superb Rare Antique (1746) English King George II Uncirculated Milled Silver Half Crown In Investment cognition. Absolutely fantastic coin in breathtaking condition. Please browse all 12 sets of photographs attached for size, weight and condition as they are self explanatory. Half-Crown of George II, 1746. The inscription reads GEORGIUS II DEI GRATIA (George II by the Grace of God). The word LIMA under the king’s head signifies that the coin was struck from silver seized from the Spanish treasure fleet off Lima, Peru, during the War of the Austrian Succession. Obverse: LIMA below bust. Obverse Legend: GEORGIUS. II. DEI. GRATIA. Reverse: Shields in cruciform. Reverse Legend: F. D. B. ET. L. D. S. R. I. A. T. ET. E. M. B. F. ET. H. REX. This coin is in impeccable order and has been handed down several generations and has always been kept in a lovely dry place. I’m told he (and my grandfather) always used to keep selected coins in a humidity controlled box (similar to a cigar box) which was atmospherically controlled to keep them dry and they were there right through George III and Victorian periods all the way through to George V period when it was finally handed down to my father. I inherited this coin in 1983 when my father passed away and I have always kept it in a perspex capsule and in a box with silicone sachets to keep it completely dry and tarnish free. I loved the unusual original box and used it for my cigars and had it in my possession until some years ago when sadly that along with a few other small antiques was lost (or stolen) during our house move. This coin has been cherished and lovingly looked after almost 2 75 years and is free from damage and scratches. It has only ever been handled with cotton gloves! I have carefully taken it out of the perspex capsule to photograph and placed it back in it after doing so. It will be extremely rare to find a silver coin this age in such remarkable condition. It is almost as if this coin in new. I hope to find it a good home and someone who will cherish it and look after it as my family have. Unfortunately my children have no interest in coins. Hence the reluctanct sale. George II was King of Great Britain and Ireland, Duke of Brunswick-Lüneburg and a prince-elector of the Holy Roman Empire from 11 June 1727 until his death in 1760. George is the most recent British monarch born outside Great Britain: he was born and brought up in northern Germany. Rare Antique (1920s) Pink Queen Anne English Bone China Gold Gilded Tea Set
Fantastic very rare pink colour antique (1920s) Queen Anne English fine bone china gold gilded twelve piece tea set in lovely condition generally without any chips or cracks or crazing other than a non malignant hairline crack in a single cup as shown in the last photograph attached. A superb set that has been in my family from the outset and I hope to find it a good home. The set is very generously gold gilded and despite its age it is in impeccable condition without any wear to the gold gilding. The photos are an accurate description. Queen Anne was one of the trade names of Shore & Coggins Limited who produced china ware in their Edensor Works, New Street and the High Street Works, Longton, Stoke-on-Trent, England. The firm dates back to 1887 when it was known as J. In 1905 a new partnership was formed with Shore, Coggins & Holt, this partnership survived 5 years until 1910 when John William Holt left and Shore & Coggins Limited was formed. (who were aquirinf a number of other pottery businesses). The Wild group expanded the business and intriduced the’Bell China’ trade name. Queen Anne’ and’Princess Anne’ trade names were introduced after the Second World War. In 1966 there was reorganisation of the Wild subsidiary companies (now under the control of Allied English Potteries) which included the closure of the works of Chapmans (Longton) Ltd and Shore & Coggins Ltd. The’Queen Anne’ trade name introduced around 1950 was used until the closure of the Edensor Works in 1966. The trade name was retained by Allied English Potteries Ltd and was used by Ridgway Potteries and was still in use by Royal Doulton in 1981.
