A Rare Brass Capstan Candlestick /Candle holder dating to mid 17th Century probably Northern European. A fabulous patina with capstan base (or bell base) type, tapered socket with round ejection aperture above a socle, Slightly incised drip-pan flaring upwards. Spreading circular foot featuring double incised concentric lines at foot. It has been repaired in the past as you would expect during its history and looks as though it was attached to a surface at some stage – see images. One expert did suggest this was mid 16th century, however, i believe the form lends itself typically to a 17th century style. Part of a private collection. Early Examples of Kay Bojesen Rosewood Corkscrews for Universal Steel Company. The corkscrews are in beautiful condition. The wood is so nice and smooth. The only’blemish’ is some cuts on one of the ends to the “winged” one, as seen, but as you will also see – you barely notice that at all when it’s in use. The actual screw has patina, but that just adds to the charm. You can see some really nice ridges along the spiral of the “winged” example, which tell me it’s a lovely early example, where they paid attention to even that little detail. The other odd-shaped one is in great condition, no issues. Some light age to the screw, but nothing bad as you see in the photos. Wing-shaped: Length of wooden handle approx. 10,5 cm / 4.1 in. Height from top of handle to bottom of screw: 10,3 cm / 4.1 in. Odd shaped: Length (bottom of screw to top of wood) approx: 10 cm / 3.9 in. Length of wooden top: 9,8 cm / 3.9 in. Total: 52g+50g / 3.6 oz. I measure in centimeters and grams and then do conversions to US measurements, so the most accurate numbers are the metrics. What a beautiful pair of early American miniature frames. These date to the first quarter of the 19th century and are composed of a pressed brass molding attached to a wood form backing. These early miniatures are difficult to find in nice condition and this pair is quite unusual for the light moss green tint surrounding the site edge…… Never seen that before and its quite attractive. The frames have their original surface, nice wavy glass, shingle backing and a thin string hanger (was likely originally tin hanger). The pair measures 3 1/8 x 3 1/2 with a 2 3/8 x 2 7/8 rabbet. Includes original (or at least, very old) Bryant paddle-switch sockets with the complementary shade holders. A very handsome piece that I restored for my 1904 apartment, but other projects demand that room be made so I wish to pass it along to another collector. It’s somewhat unusual in style for this era, having a body shape suggestive of Williamsburg chandeliers, and speaking to the neo-Colonial sensibilities in the decorative art of its period. The laurel wreath motifs that decorate the lowest portion of the body enhance the effect. Included is a pair of frosted milk glass shades with a ribbed urn motif. In generally good shape minus one damaged shade holder. The holder still does its job, but all the damaged parts will be included in case you’re handy with soldering and feel confident in making the repair. Newer wiring and modern steel hanging equipment allow it to be easily attached to any ceiling junction box. With some assembly it could be ready to hang the same day it arrives. “Rare – Interesting Piece of Phonograph History” ANTIQUE: EARLY 5 CYLINDER PHONOGRAPH UNMARKED – Brass Metal Top Piece was found attached as seen in photo and WAS TREADLE POWERED at the time of discovery. You are getting an antique unmarked early 5 cylinder phonograph (not complete, as I have been told) – that was treadle powered from the late 1800’s. Termites destroyed the table top that the phonograph was sitting on (see actual photos – showing the wood table top that was there before it had to be removed). It was part of a huge antique find in Polk County, Florida recently that was caught up in legalities between two deceased antique collectors for a couple of decades or more. Please look over all the photos as they are part of the description. The piece is untampered with and just the way we found it. NOTE: This paragraph may have nothing to do with this item:This is one of the early dictating machines/phonographs of the 1870’s – 1890’s. Not sure what company or person was behind this one since it is unmarked… Edison, Bell, Tainter, Bell? The dictating machines of this time period used tin, foil and wax over the cylinders. Some were also known as shavers, Volta, Dictaphones, or Graphophones. Tainter was the first, I believe, to put the phonograph on a sewing machine base and use the treadle to power the phonograph cylinder. This listing is for the top unit only – not the treadle base/sewing machine base that you see in the photos.
