“Rare – Interesting Piece of Phonograph History” ANTIQUE: EARLY 5 CYLINDER PHONOGRAPH UNMARKED – Brass Metal Top Piece was found attached as seen in photo and WAS TREADLE POWERED at the time of discovery. You are getting an antique unmarked early 5 cylinder phonograph (not complete, as I have been told) – that was treadle powered from the late 1800’s. Termites destroyed the table top that the phonograph was sitting on (see actual photos – showing the wood table top that was there before it had to be removed). It was part of a huge antique find in Polk County, Florida recently that was caught up in legalities between two deceased antique collectors for a couple of decades or more. Please look over all the photos as they are part of the description. The piece is untampered with and just the way we found it. NOTE: This paragraph may have nothing to do with this item:This is one of the early dictating machines/phonographs of the 1870’s – 1890’s. Not sure what company or person was behind this one since it is unmarked… Edison, Bell, Tainter, Bell? The dictating machines of this time period used tin, foil and wax over the cylinders. Some were also known as shavers, Volta, Dictaphones, or Graphophones. Tainter was the first, I believe, to put the phonograph on a sewing machine base and use the treadle to power the phonograph cylinder. This listing is for the top unit only – not the treadle base/sewing machine base that you see in the photos. You will get the item just as you see it in the photo (top phonograph part only). >the phonograph approximate dimensions: 18-1/2″W x 8-1/2″D x 9-1/2H (brass type metal). The base with treadle is NOT included. Table top is NOT included. Non-working phonograph at this time. Very Early Ross London Petzval 320mm f4.5 Portrait Antique Brass Lens c1851 RARE
Very Early Ross London Petzval Portrait lens with a cemented achromat lens at the front and two air spaced lenses (flint+crown) at the rear. 4355 (very early Circa 1851/52). Focal length: 320mmApprox. Speed: f4.5 approx. Ross lenses are synonymous for their quality and the early portrait petzval lenses were amongst the very best lenses for their time. In fact Dallmeyer worked for Ross for some time before setting up his own business in c1860. Probably made/intended for 6×4″(cabinet) format although covers very well on my whole plate(6.5″x8.5 format) camera. May also cover 10×8 especially at portrait distance(not tested). The outside of the brass lens barrel shows much patina and wear/scratches commensurate with age. There are some dings/dents to the hood. The barrel has been cut/modified possibly by W. Optically the lens is in good condition especially when considering it’s age. Clean / clear to look though. On closer inspection there is some small edge separation on front lens. Also a few quite deep scratches/scuffs marks on rear glass. There are also some small dust / cleaning marks / small scratches and some micro bubbles all normal for an antique lens of this age and nothing to affect performance. The rack&pinion is not working smoothly! It appears to slip/get stuck mostly in one direction, although if helped by hand it can be made to work somewhat but it’s really not so important as usually the camera should be used to focus. There is a w aterhouse stop slot that has been made later but no stops included! All lens elements & hood can be unscrewed. Height: 6.7 inches including hood. Glass diameter: 3.25 inches. Rear screw thread diameter: 4.2 inches. Lens comes with front cap(poor condition/falling apart). PLEASE NOTE THERE IS NO FLANGE WITH THIS LENS! THESE EARLY ROSS LENSES DO NOT COME ALONG OFTEN SO ACT QUICKLY IF YOU DO NOT WANT TO MISS OUT ON THIS ONE! ALL SENSIBLE OFFERS CONSIDERED! Please look at all pictures and do not hesitate to ask any questions! PLEASE NOTE THIS IS AN ANTIQUE LENS OVER 100 YEARS OLD THEREFORE SHOWS WEAR AND TEAR AS EXPECTED FOR A LENS OF THIS AGE! Time wasters will be reported and blocked! Inspection and collection more than welcome from East London! The item(s) will be sent to your Pay-Pal address ONLY, please make sure your address is confirmed. Box or proxy addresses!
