Antique HEROIN embossed QUACK MEDICINE bottle. Large, early hand blown, RARE
Amber-colored cylin der-shaped antique patent’quack’ bottle that o riginally contained a HEROIN LACED medicine. This is a very early hand B lown I nto M old bottle (BIM) with a tooled top, dating it back well over 100 years old. Bottle embossed : ” Glyco – Heroin /’SMITH’ “. Base of bottle embossed : MARTIN H. / CHEMISTS / NEW YORK. Condition : Bottle has overall stain and wear, has a shallow surfaced bubble, but really there is nothing specifically wrong with it, NO cracks, chips, dings, damage, etc. PLEASE see pictures for better idea of overall condition. Age : A hand-blown bottle (Blown-In-Mold = BIM) with a tooled-top, ca. T hese bottle contained a patent medicine and one of the main ingredients in it was Heroin, Glyico Heroin. Heroin was used over a century ago as an ingredient in cough syrup, to suppress the cough and suppressing the discomfort that is associated with it. Yet it did much more than that as patients came to find out that they kept using the syrup long after the cough was gone. As they say,’Caution, may be habit forming’. To say the least! Heroin is one of the most addictive substances known to mankind. This is one of the very few antique bottles that we know of that actually has the word ” HEROIN ” embossed in the glass which makes it quite appealing. It is not a commonly found bottle and these are getting increasingly hard to f ind , especially in this PRISTINE CLEAN condition, check it out! We put our 30+ years of experience in antiques to use in describing every item we list. 5276-78s, 813-14c, 6042t, 2616-19x. The item “Antique HEROIN embossed QUACK MEDICINE bottle. RARE BOTTLE CAP Gay-Ola Soda ERROR CAP Early 1900s Glasgow KY Antique COCA-COLA
Offered for sale is the shown original “Gay-Ola” Soda Bottle Cap from the Glasgow Bottling Co. The cap appears to say “Glasgow NY” across the bottom. However the town Glasgow, NY does not exist. So we are a little puzzled by this. One theory we have is that the cap was misprinted, and the “NY” should be KY. We do have documentation that the bottling plant existed in Glasgow KY in 1907. In the last photo is a copy of the State Auditors Report from Kentucky. In this photo at the very bottom “Glasgow Bottling Company” is listed as a business with an established date of 1907 next to it. This further supports the theory that the cap came from Glasgow, KY. Gay-Ola soda was produced from 1911 to the early 1920’s. The company was sued by Coca-Cola and were forced to change the original printed Gay-Ola logo. The original logo is shown on this cap, not the second. This information supports the fact that the cap is around 100 years of age. A very rare find! Impossible to find another one anywhere online. A must have for the right collector of Gay-Ola bottles. Cap is not bent and has original cork inside the cap. Cap may have never been on a bottle, but unable to prove this. Cap was found recently in Glasgow Kentucky. Another one may never surface again, so don’t let this one get away! A little info about Gay-Ola soda found online. It’s rare to ever find anything on Gay-Ola due to the fact it did not last long as it was taken off the market. This soft drink can be traced back to Diva Brown’s formula originated with J. The Gay-Ola trade mark was registered on Jan. Their sales began in sky rocket and The Coca-Cola Company took notice and took the company to court. They won the first court case but lost an appeal and then was forced to change the script logo. But that was not the last of it, as the Coca Cola Company continued to take Gay-Ola to court charging unfair competition due to the diamond shaped label. If you have any doubts, we encourage you to please read some of our feedback from previous buyers. If you have any questions at all please do not hesitate to ask. We will do our best to answer within 24 hours. The item “RARE BOTTLE CAP Gay-Ola Soda ERROR CAP Early 1900s Glasgow KY Antique COCA-COLA” is in sale since Sunday, January 13, 2019. This item is in the category “Collectibles\Advertising\Soda\Merchandise & Memorabilia\Bottle Caps”. The seller is “270bryan” and is located in Glasgow, Kentucky. Rare early 18th century French free-blown glass flower pot bottle circa 1725
Very rare early 18. Century French free-blown glass flower pot bottle, circa 1725. Please register my store/page in your favorites, for a fine range of 14th to 19th century period metalwork, lighting & other pieces, all guaranteed, as to age, condition & origin. Pieces in group photos are for comparison. Im an antiques dealer, & have started the spring antiques shows; my associate in France is an expat American historian of European Decorative Arts & guest museum curator, with 44 years of advanced experience. They routinely end because they sell directly. Dear friends & clients. Due to a serious health problem, I was unable to do much from France for 9 weeks. Group photos will give you a slight idea of the depth of my collections, and Elly’s inventory – keep watching this page. As a consequence of focusing on European, largely French Decorative Arts prior to 1830 for 25 years, and living in rural France, my extensive experience in antique glass is rarely reflected in Ellys offerings. 1988, Potdvin Gendres, Jacqueline Bellanger devotes pages 262 to 284 to bottles (both table and utilitarian), and illustrates many, 15. However, no examples of this very rare French form are photographed (or shown in line drawings), which says more than a bit about the rarity of the bottle. However, I have seen two examples for sale from advanced French specialist dealers who are very specifically informed on both French bottle glass and the date for the flower pot form. This has an unconfirmed anecdotal history of coming from a French shipwreck in the North Sea unfortunately, further precise details were not available. Ive had the same shipwreck provenance experience with several pieces of early metalwork, but from the south of France, usually off the coast near Marseille (including a French Renaissance bronze lamp in my collection). Condition is of this very rare bottle is excellent, but not perfect the exterior has obvious oxidation that is not typical of dug glass; there is a small chip (3/8 long, and slightly worn smooth) on the underside of the tooled collar (see photos # 9 & 11). The bottle does not have any star or other cracks the surface lines do not refract the light and after 44 years of experience with early glass, you can be sure that I know the difference! Any crossing surface lines were impossible to photograph; they are completely blended in with the rest of the usual utilitarian bottle glass surface scratches. The base has a very high kick (about 2 & 1/2), and a large broken-ring pontil. As can be seen in the group photos, we have other glass on hand (and in quantity) I hope to be able to get more photos done, now that spring has finally arrived to the high chilly hills of central France. If you don’t have Bellangers book, I highly recommend it, but since it is no longer in print, it has gotten expensive 300 Euros or more, retail try Internet or abebooks, for a used copy. From the mid-1980’s to 1992, I was one of a small group of dealers invited to exhibit at all 3 Early American Glass Club shows, & often shared a booth with my late friend, J. Anthony Stout, who was one of the foremost US scholars of English & Continental glass, and a Fellow of the Corning Museum. In the 1980s, I wrote a lengthy, 3-part review of the Catherine Thuro Collection of lighting; did research, appraisals, & wrote catalogs for US auctioneers; reviewed million dollar-plus Art Glass auctions for North American antiques journals, and became a founding trustee of the.
