Rare Herbert Terry 1227. This iconic lamp from the makers Herbert Terry and Sons has been restored with a focus on retaining its industrial heritage. Known as the model 1227, this is a highly sought after industrial lamp which is the archetypal of anglepoise. This particular version of the 1227 is a very early model that can be identified through its perforated shade and’wrinkled’ paintwork. This model was produced during the crossover period (which was in the year 1938) between the 3-step and 2-step base. Resultantly, this lamp feautres aspects from both models and is a highly sought after version. The 1227 dates back to the mid 20th century and the anglepoise design was originally created by George Carwardine, an engineer with a specialist background in vehicle suspension systems. As part of the restoration process for this lamp, it was necessary to have a complete electrical upgrade. This has been done using a braided fabric 3-core flex and a British 3-pin plug fitted with a 3-amp fuse. The lamp also comes complete with a low energy LED bulb. This lamp has been fully tested by a qualified electrician. Please note that this lamp does have a repair to the fork block that has been captured in the photos. This repair includes bracing to the fork block on both sides due to damage to one of the forks. The repair on bracing the forks is quality engineering that does not deter from the aesthetic or structural integrity. Consequently, it can be argued that the repair adds to the overall charm of this scarce industrial lamp. Please enquire for quotes to elsewhere. Feel free to ask any questions. Finally, please study the photos as they form pet of the description. If you with you have extra photos of specific areas of this lamp then please enquire. Wimbledon-Furniture is delighted to offer for sale this stunning and exceptionally rare pair of original hand carved in Black Forest wood very large Bear armchairs. A collectable and signature pair of art furniture armchairs. This pair are exceptional, they date to the early 20. Century circa 1920, they are hand carved from solid slabs of black forest wood timber. Black forest wood gets its name from the darkness of the timber, this is due to the trees being naturally grown very closely, they are very tall meaning no light reaches the timber giving it this wonderful colour. This pair came to me in need of some sympathetic conservation, they had been coated is some kind of thick sticky dark wax which hid the natural colour and timber patina, we have painstakingly removed this substance to reveal the natural colour of the wood and grain. We have then very lightly wax sealed and hand polished them from top to bottom, the finished result is pretty much the best looking pair of these chairs you will ever find. They have old repairs here and there, nothing you wouldnt expect from 100+ year old chairs that are this large and heavy. There are no losses or structural issues what so ever they are a very fine example. Seat height:- 43cm. Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements please ask. Black Forest Carving History. In the 1800s the wood carving industry of Switzerland started in the town of Brienz. By the end of the 1800s it had become the driving force for this industry. Swiss wood carvers became world renown and featured at many international exhibitions. Here is a shortlist of the major exhibitions Black Forest Carvings were spotlighted. Great Exhibition, London (1851). Centennial Exhibition, Philadelphia (1876). Chicago Worlds Fair, Chicago (1893). Exposition Universelle, Paris (1900). In Europe Black Forest carvings (wares) became a symbol of luxury and wealth. The finest pieces of Black Forest carving was often found in Royal collection and elite collectors homes (usually Victorian world travellers). There was a high demand for these carving especially depicting American Wildlife. Here are some of the American animals that were highly sought after: Bears, Stags, Eagles, Boars and Dogs. In the last 15 years this genre has seen some major changes. Specialty auctions and dealers have been popping up world wide. Along with various books on the subject being published. The biggest misconception about Black Forest carvings is that they originated in Germany. However they are actually the creation of Swiss carvers.
