Please feel free to make an offer. A Very Early Rare Antique Truffle Jar Hand blown Black Glass. It really reminds me of the neck of a C17th Black Glass Onion Bottle. Beautiful in its sculptural type form & very dark green, more so black in colour. Hand blown & it. Works beautifully as either a piece of sculpture, ornament or vase. The very dark colour of the jar protects the truffle from light & allows it to preserve the taste qualities of the truffle. This type of jar is tall & narrow, but rather small in size. It takes the form of a small, stocky bottle with a wide neck. The diameter of the neck is always larger than a bottle to allow a truffle of good size to be put inside. It’s quite dense & heavy in weight. It works beautifully as a vase. In expected condition for an item of this significant age & nature. There are parts of the glass that is a sort of dappled matt none shiny in places also odd expected scratches & a very tiny nick. I expect it would probably of been dug up maybe as I’ve not cleaned it & it still looks a little dirty. The Neck outer measurements is just over 4.5 cm. The base is 5.5 cm in diameter. A Rare & unusual piece that would make a Great & Unique Xmas Present. The item will be double boxed for safety of posting. Please study the images as they also form part of the description & please do your own research. This is a very hard to find early composition doll using a Kaiser face bisque mold. Though unmarked, this baby was obviously a transitional doll when doll companies were switching from bisque to composition but still using their bisque face molds. He has a jointed cloth body and is wearing his original blue and white polka dot romper with blue buttons. This mold came in either black or white composition, but being black and transitional, is even harder to find. They came in either cloth or composition bodies. I have a white one with a composition body but it is not in as pristine condition as this beautiful baby. No damages to report, completely perfect. No repairs or touch ups, no leaking body. This and the black Dream Baby I have listed came from the original family from the same child. TEDDY BEAR NOT INCLUDED. Once you are a dealer, you will understand that this community is small and most long-timers dont intentionally harm buyers. And it is a JOB. I ask that you contact me with any issues you may have. Collecting should always be fun and I love to make relationships with my buyers. Please use your best judgement and knowledge of your chosen collectible. Royal House Antiques is delighted to offer for sale. Stunning and exceptionally rare pair of original hand carved in Black Forest wood very large Bear armchairs. A collectable and signature pair of art furniture armchairs. This pair are exceptional, they date to the early 20. Century circa 1920, they are hand carved from solid slabs of black forest wood timber. Black forest wood gets its name from the darkness of the timber, this is due to the trees being naturally grown very closely, they are very tall meaning no light reaches the timber giving it this wonderful colour. This pair came to me in need of some sympathetic conservation, they had been coated is some kind of thick sticky dark wax which hid the natural colour and timber patina, we have painstakingly removed this substance to reveal the natural colour of the wood and grain. We have then very lightly wax sealed, and hand polished them from top to bottom, the finished result is pretty much the best-looking pair of these chairs you will ever find. They have old repairs here and there, nothing you would not expect from 100+ year old chairs that are this large and heavy. There are no losses or structural issues whatsoever they are a very fine example. Seat height:- 43cm. Please note all measurements are taken at the widest point, if you would like any additional or specific measurements, please ask. Black Forest Carving History. In the 1800s the wood carving industry of Switzerland started in the town of Brienz. By the end of the 1800s it had become the driving force for this industry. Swiss wood carvers became world renown and featured at many international exhibitions. Here is a shortlist of the major exhibitions Black Forest Carvings were spotlighted. Great Exhibition, London (1851). Centennial Exhibition, Philadelphia (1876). Chicago Worlds Fair, Chicago (1893). Exposition Universelle, Paris (1900). In Europe Black Forest carvings (wares) became a symbol of luxury and wealth. The finest pieces of Black Forest carving were often found in Royal collection and elite collectors homes (usually Victorian world travellers). There was a high demand for these carving especially depicting American Wildlife. Here are some of the American animals that were highly sought after: Bears, Stags, Eagles, Boars and Dogs. In the last 15 years this genre has seen some major changes. Specialty auctions and dealers have been popping up worldwide. Along with various books on the subject being published. The biggest misconception about Black Forest carvings is that they originated in Germany. However, they are actually the creation of Swiss carvers. This listing is for an early antique Black Forest wall clock. This clock is very unusual, as it features a roof like top, ornately carved lower panel with a carving of a man, carved dial, ornate hands, and wooden movement. The clock is missing its weights. We took photos with weights from an American ogee clock attached in order to show where the chains are. The ogee weights are not included. There are remnants of a makers label on the back. It looks like it says KHS with the emblem of an animal of sorts. This clock measures 48 x 15 x 8 inches. Its a beautiful pieces that we unfortunately do not know a whole lot about. There is a piece of trim missing on the upper right side and it appears that there was once a top ornament or finial of sorts that is missing (see photos). This item is part of an inherited estate. Thus, time accuracy is not guaranteed. Please see photos for details and feel free to message with any questions.
