RARE EARLY 20TH CENTURY ANTIQUE’AUNT JEMIMA’ BLACK AME RIC ANA MONUMENTAL UPRIGHT CAST IRON DOORSTOP W/ORIGINAL. Late 19th-early 20th century figurative cast iron doorstops. 13″ Height x 8″ Width 3 ΒΌ Depth. Offered is this superb and one of the very best late 19th to early 20th century antique Ame ri can hand painted cast iron Aunt Jemima monumental doorstops at least I have ever seen. What makes it special is not only its very large, even monumental size at 13 inches in height, but the wonderful sculptural features that remain crisp and clear and not obscured by later enamel paint, which almost always buries the figurative details of the form in the viscous, thick enamel oil paint. This monumental doorstop now reads as pure Ame ri can folk art sculpture, with its original painted surfaces and remains unbastardized, untouched and undisturbed. That and that alone is enough to make this piece of turn-of- the-century Black Americana interesting enough, never mind the exemplary and extraordinary original painted surfaces. Without any demonstrable flea-bites to its edges, deep abrasions, dents or dings and really without any other kind of deformities that a drop or serious tumble might have caused. It’s nearly flawless and only shows the normal depreciating effects of time. It was discovered on the South Shore of Massachusetts and is estate-fresh and fresh to the marketplace, never having been seen outside of the home where it was found. Not only an extraordinary Ame ri can antique but an extraordinary Ame ri can cultural artifact. Very rare in this kind of well-preserved, untouched, unadulterated original condition. Dates to right about 1931 to 1932, with a real early Deco silhouette that looks different from every angle. Supple and buttery black French felt with a velour finish, drapes around the face like a halo from the front, with drooping folding sides reminiscent of the late 1920s cloches. Black silk ribbon around the crown. Perfect as ti is, Lilly has added only a carved bright butterscotch bakelite leaf brooch/clip which can be moved to any position that suits the fancy. Early hats from Dache’ are extremely rare, most museums do not even have one. Sits on the back of the head and fits most lady’s heads, very comfy to wear. Mr Blackwatch is a wonderful very rare German antique black mohair teddy bear measuring approx 18 c1912 This lovely old boy has around 65% of his short pile black mohair remaining with his black shoe button eyes and black stitched nose, there’s a very old repair of dark blue felt under one of his shoe button eyes, there are a few small repairs here and there nothing serious you would expect from a bear especially having black mohair. His paws and pads have been professionally recovered with high quality wool felt the originals or what is left of them are still underneath. Mr Blackwatch is stuffed with wood wool with a slightly slumpy head where the wood wool has broken down over the years. Black bears were especially popular and bought as memorial bears when the Titanic sank. These were made by several prominent companies! Antique Schoolhouse Quilt 82″ x 82″. This exceptional, rare, antique quilt is entirely hand pieced and quilted. It is “Barn Fresh” and has not been cleaned or repaired. I have uploaded many photos.
