I believe this to be from the 1700’s. Just come off an Old farm in Lancaster county Pennsylvania. It looks good for what it is and it should still be in working order everything seems nice and sturdy. There is a little piece of the finial that has broke off as seen in my photos but overall it looks good and displays well for what it is. This item is in the category “Antiques\Primitives”. Antique Early 18th Century Oak Coffer with Rare Carved Name & Date 1731
Large Antique Solid Oak Coffer Chest. Period Oak Country Antique Coffer is of pegged construction. Which has a name and the date of 1731 carved at the base. Also has a later candle box. We believe the carved name and date would probably be of a much later date to the coffer as was so often the case, this would therefore make this a much earlier piece, and seeing its construction and the oak planks age could well be as early as 16th Century! Amazing period antique still has its original hinges to the lid above a detailed carved panelled front. This charming antique Oak Coffer stands on raised feet and is beautifully aged and with good patina. It has a large internal space. There are signs of old historic woodworm throughout – this is long gone and has been fully treated as a precaution. It has also been cleaned using a traditional form of antique wax finishing to feed the wood. This item is in the category “Antiques\Antique Furniture\Trunks & Chests”. The seller is “shabbytreschic” and is located in this country: GB. This item can be shipped to United Kingdom.
