Rare Early Brass Capstan Candlestick c17th Great Patina Jacobean c16th c15th
June 7, 2020
A Rare Brass Capstan Candlestick /Candle holder dating to mid 17th Century probably Northern European. A fabulous patina with capstan base (or bell base) type, tapered socket with round ejection aperture above a socle, Slightly incised drip-pan flaring upwards. Spreading circular foot featuring double incised concentric lines at foot. It has been repaired in the past as you would expect during its history and looks as though it was attached to a surface at some stage – see images. One expert did suggest this was mid 16th century, however, i believe the form lends itself typically to a 17th century style. Part of a private collection.
