This is a wonderful and very RARE Antique Old Early California Desert Landscape Oil Painting on canvas, by Southern California Plein Air Impressionist Harry S. Hargrave 1871 – 1965. His paintings pop up on the internet about once or twice a decade, and there is not much information on this early California painter. Perhaps you know more about him or his work? This painting depicts a lovely and highly detailed California desert landscape, with blooming wildflowers, shrubbery, and mountain peaks in the distance. Signed and dated: “HS Hargrave 49″ in the lower right corner. Approximately 20 1/2 inches x 24 1/2 inches including frame. Actual artwork is approximately 16 x 20 inches. Good – Okay condition for age, with some areas of mild paint loss, discoloration and scuffing to the canvas. Original period gilded frame had moderate gilding loss and edge wear please see photos.
