RARE 12 EARLY HARWIN & CO. ENGLISH TEDDY BEAR c1915-18 LONG ARMS & HUMP
This gorgeous little chap is a Harwin teddy bear and early, dating to c1915-18. This company ceased trading in 1930 so these bears are very sought after as not many remain. He’s a wonderful character, despite having lost his nose and mouth stitching. I will leave this to his new owner as Harwin bears have distinct mouths and I think best left to a professional to do. He has his original clear glass eyes with remains of painted backs. He has very long arms, a large hump, and his legs are set high on the body… All characteristics of a Harwin bear. All his original felt pads are intact with no holes or repair. There are only a few claw stitches remaining. The mohair is quite sparse overall but only what you would expect from a 100+ year old bear. He is straw filled (wood wool) throughout, and all his joints work well. Teddy is in good clean condition for his age. He has been well looked after. Such a great character! The item “RARE 12 EARLY HARWIN & CO. ENGLISH TEDDY BEAR c1915-18 LONG ARMS & HUMP” is in sale since Sunday, July 25, 2021. This item is in the category “Dolls & Bears\Bears\Antique”. RARE ANTIQUE TIN TOY. EARLY MECHANICAL MOTORCYCLE / AUTOMATON RIDER. NICE SIZE AT ABOUT 8 INCHES LENTH / 7 INCHES HEIGHT. CLOCKWORK / WIND UP MECHANISM….. POWERS THE BIKE THRU ITS RARE CHAIN DRIVE ACTION. PERIOD EDWARDIAN GENTLEMAN FIGURE, WITH ORIGINAL HAND PAINTED FINISH. GREAT OLD TIN LITHO BLUE MOTORCYCLE. NICE TIN SPOKE WHEELS & ORIG. ORIGINAL FIXED-KEY WINDER TO THE LEFT SIDE. THE MOTORCYCLIST HAS A WONDERFUL ARTICULATED MOVEMENT, GIVING THE IMPRESSION HE IS “PEDAL STARTING ” HIS BIKE. STILL WITH THE UNDERSIDE LITTLE BALANCE WHEELS. WONDERFUL OLD PIECE NOW WELL OVER 100 YEARS……. The rider displays with typical paint loss/wear, chips, flaking as is common to these earlier German toys. Nice bright tin litho, with just little surface marks, chips, scuffs etc…. Great rot free state. No repaint or touch up. Motorcyclist has lost his left arm to shoulder hang tabs i have created a simple metal bracket with tabs, which simply slots into the original shoulder slots….. The rider’s underside upper left arm, simply requires securing permanently to this bracket…. With a drop of solder ideally….. But to leave for the next owner, i have had the arm very securely fixed in place with a small blue tack fixing/so easily removeable if desired. If you look at the images, you probably wouldn’t know the left arm has been repaired this way….. But i always try to be honest. MOTORCLE RIDER SITS GREAT ON HIS OLD SADDLE. WITH A CAREFUL WIND UP OF THE ANCIENT MECHANISM….. THE MOTORCYCLE RIDES ABOUT VERY NICELY. Please take a look on youtube for a short clip of him in action “GUNTHERMANN MOTORCYCLE”. RARE EARLY GERMAN TOY DISPLAYS REALLY WELL & STILL WORKS GREAT. (please see all images for actual condition). A LOVELY DECORATIVE PIECE. I’ve added all the images i can, in differing light to hopefully show the honest/accurate condition….. Please take a good close look at all the images as these also form part of the description… If you need more pics or have questions etc… Original hand painted toy… Tin lithographed; similar period toy makers included: marklin, bing, orobr, lehmann, distler, gely, kellermann, g & k, charles rossignol, fernand martin, jep, hornby, meccano, william britains, mettoy, wells, marx toys, structo, kingsbury. RARE Early Antique J. BLATTNER, ST. LOUIS, MO. Brass Surveyor's Vernier Compass
Here we have a RARE Early Antique J. Brass Surveyor’s Vernier Compass. Jacob Blattner was born in Berne, Switzerland. Was thoroughly trained in the art of manufacturing precision instruments. In 1839, Jacob and his wife, along with his foreman and his foremans family immigrated to the United States. Blattner opened a shop at 24 Chestnut. 1840 as a mathematical instrument maker. His shop manufactured all types of mathematical, scientific and optical instruments. Offered a large range of surveyors compasses. His sole-proprietorship lasted until his retirement in 1871. The successor to Jacob Blattners operation of 30 years was the company, Blattner & Adam. The principals were Henry Blattner, Jacob’s son, and Frank Adam, Jacob’s son-in-law. This surveyors vernier compass has a silvered brass compass dial that is inscribed: J. The dial face is divided in eight sections with directional designations and a very nice large. The compass has an elevated dial edge with 360 degree graduation around perimeter. There is a finely sculpted steel needle. The bottom mounted needle lift/lock is missing its thumbscrew. There is a vernier adjustment knob which operates gears to revolve the compass, and a locking knob below the compass case. There is a tiny bit of damage on the edge of the vernier plate with an edge folding up. This doesn’t affect the function. See pics The top of the main frame is also outfitted with two upright sighting vanes. The vanes have slit, peep hole sights and can be removed for ease of transport. The bottom of the compass has a tripod attachment collar. Instrument is 16-1/2″ Long with 7-1/2″ tall vanes and a 6-1/4 diameter compass. This instrument has a very nice aged patina finish!! This is decent example of one of the St. Louis surveyor, scientific instrument makers that deserves a place in your collection. Please remember to leave Feedback. I will gladly reciprocate. Rare Early 1900 Large Brass Rice Warmer Container BangJaYuGi. This is one of the oldest Korean brassware we have seen over the years. This is heavy and sounds wonderful when you bang on it. Long before electric rice cooker was around this large container was used during 19th century and early 1900 to keep the rice warm. Mom and grandma would put rice in to this container after. Rice is made and put this container under the blanket to keep it warm until dinner time. The Koreans used ondol system so entire floor of the house was warm or hot. Korean brassware have been big part of daily life since Goryo dynasty to 1945 or just before the Korean war. These brassware were probably made around first quarter of 20th century. Some of these items were hand made hence the different shapes and some with visible hand hammering mark. Early on brassware was reserved for the upper class and the nobles but during it’s peak (19th century) they became available to most Koreans. Rare Early 18th Century All Wood Foot Warmer W Unusual Side Door Opening & Pan
Early 18th century foot stove / foot warmer. Early example and rare to be made all of wood rather than the usual tin panels. I believe it to be made of cherry wood, and it is constructed with square nails. Unique and unusual to have a slide up lid opening on the side wall. Wonderful to have the original sheet iron liner pan still inside. The pan is even well made with a nice finger ring handle. The top of the warmer has a swing handle, and it is perforated on all sides with holes for decoration and also to let the heat out. It measures 6 5/8 inches tall by 9 1/2 inches by 8 1/2 inches. Excellent condition , all complete. Rare early and unusual example, perfect to add to any early primitive collection. Thick, sturdy and quite weighty. Similar example can be referenced in G Neumanns book Early American Antique Country Furnishings , pg 327.
