An early model Anenometer or wind meter signed, on the dial’BAIRD & SON GLASGOW 158B’ & signed on the cross bar BIRAMS PATENT. I believe this was the first of the Birams Patent Anemometers produced around 1848. These first examples were constructed with black painted copper vanes with copper wire holding each vane to each other, whereas the later ones were constructed with aluminium vanes. The dial is small with two working recording dials – please note: minor chip to glass. This essential instrument was used as a safety guide to read ventilation in mines during the 19th Century – it was simply held up via the loop at the top. Original lacquer is stained in places. Diameter: 16.5 cms. Great example for a mining collection. The item “RARE EARLY MODEL 19th CENTURY BIRAMS PATENT ANENOMETER AIR METER BAIRD GLASGOW” is in sale since Wednesday, November 11, 2020.
