Rare Antique Mulberry Transferware Platter’Flosculous’ W. Ridgway Staffordshire
Posted by admin On April 27, 2024
William Ridgway English Staffordshire Transferware Platter, Flosculous Pattern, Mulberry. A beautiful and very hard to find early pattern in shades of purple: flowers, stems. Extend from a scroll design in the center to the edges no border! Measures about 19″ by 15″ and rises about 1.75. Marked on back with Urn and Anchor. It has the typical crazing for a piece this old – some wear, small scratches and staining but no chips or cracks and displays beautifully!

There are two people leaning against a fence – two paths lead from them – one to what could be a church and another to a row of houses. In the background are mountains and trees. The people could be two farmers or a couple. Both have hats on, it appears. The whole scene is then circled by a floral and foliage display. All this on one small bowl – a true work of art to be treasured.
RARE ANTIQUE Staffordshire Aesthetic Transferware Pitcher Early, UNUSUAL Find

I cannot locate any other examples of this design, nor the’Disraeli’ ribbon mark. It’s clearly an early example of Staffordshire Aesthetic Transferware, but there is no record I can find of a maker using the name,’Disraeli’. There are other examples of Disraeli dedicated, & “themed” items, but nothing with this mark, & the design itself is utterly unlike any other I’ve seen. Hard to make out, but the impressed stamp also leads one to give this baby an early date. I’m thinking about 1860. It’s in fantastic shape, considering its age & likely distance traveled in its life. Terrific crazing showing its age beautifully! No significant chips not repairs apparent anywhere.
