Hard to come by collectable bear. Small wear hole side of nose and top of head. Stitch repair tummy seam and very small stitch repair top if leg. All small please see photos to show. Balding to fur on face can be expected for over 100 years old. Claw stitching to foot and hand pads middle claw stitch loose on one hand at some time replacement paws and pads. RARE 12 EARLY HARWIN & CO. ENGLISH TEDDY BEAR c1915-18 LONG ARMS & HUMP

This gorgeous little chap is a Harwin teddy bear and early, dating to c1915-18. This company ceased trading in 1930 so these bears are very sought after as not many remain. He’s a wonderful character, despite having lost his nose and mouth stitching. I will leave this to his new owner as Harwin bears have distinct mouths and I think best left to a professional to do. He has his original clear glass eyes with remains of painted backs. He has very long arms, a large hump, and his legs are set high on the body… All characteristics of a Harwin bear. All his original felt pads are intact with no holes or repair. There are only a few claw stitches remaining. The mohair is quite sparse overall but only what you would expect from a 100+ year old bear. He is straw filled (wood wool) throughout, and all his joints work well. Teddy is in good clean condition for his age. He has been well looked after. Such a great character! The item “RARE 12 EARLY HARWIN & CO. Here is a very early and special teddy bear from a private collection. Body feels to be a straw fill. Characteristics of Bing, and Steiff like feet and arms. Further study shows that the bear most resembles bears from the German company Kohler and Rosewald formed in 1909, in Nuremberg. Large glass eyes, original muzzle mouth and nose stitching. RARE! Antique 1907 AETNA Early American Mohair Fully Jointed Teddy BEAR 14 tall

Antique 1907 AETNA Early American Mohair Fully Jointed Teddy BEAR 14 tall. Head is stuffed wood cork, body is stuffed with excelsior and kapok. Nose has some stitches missing, but because there is a bottom inset cloth, you can’t really tell. This Teddy BEAR is ALL original. Paw pads are inset with cardboard in the FEET. And there is no stamp on the foot (it has faded with age). I would say this Teddy Bear is attributed to AETNA early American BEAR. The ear placement and the face seam is centered to the ears. The Head is slightly firmly stuffed, and there is a slight wobble which is normal for a bear this age. Comes from a Fine Estate here in Palm Springs. I have NEVER come across a bear like this from AETNA. Concerning Clothing: Although garments are carefully inspected… Some slight irregularities may be noticeable. Adorable teddy is 13 tall, combo stuffed with excelsior and kapok and a full coat of beautiful long, gold mohair. Black vertical stitched nose with longer outer stitches and precious smile. Amber glass eyes are stitched in. Velveteen paw pads are present and intact. Bottom paws are cardboard lined, spot where label was is evident on right foot.
