Superb Antique Extremely Rare Circa 1905 Bernard Moore Early Flambé Rabbit
Here for your consideration is a beautiful and extremely rare, antique, circa 1905, miniature, Bernard Moore, early flambé figure of a cute baby rabbit with raised elongated ears. Please take time to look at all 12 photos to fully appreciate this majestic early flambé rabbit. The flambé colouring in this delightful early Bernard Moore rabbit is interesting and unusual because you can see the tell-tale signs of it not being as refined as the later Royal Doulton flambé ware. It’s still got real strong vibrant running mottled colouring though. I really don’t believe my photos are doing this magnificent miniature rabbit true justice because they’re picking up white light reflections. The colouring and the way they’ve been mixed are just sublime. The base has the black script.. Bernard Moore distinct initial markings.. Condition, no cracks, damage or repairs. It does have some. Age-related base wear commensurate with 1114 years of age, but nothing unusual. Just a very nice extremely rare piece of early Bernard Moore flambé ware pottery. For the innovative production of flambé glazes and pottery with reduced lustre pigments. He joined his father’s business, Samuel Moore & Son, in 1865 and on his fathers death two years later took over the running of the firm. From 1873 to 1905 they traded as Moore Bros. Moore’s knowledge of ceramic chemistry was considerable and he was widely consulted by the ceramics industry on technical matters. Throughout the 1880s and 1890s, it is likely that he was experimenting with and perfecting the specialist and difficult glazes with which his name is now principally associated. In 1902 he was elected president of the British Ceramic Society. Moore commissioned the pots from another maker and had them decorated at Wolfe Street. His decorators included Dora Billington, Hilda Beardmore, Hilda Lindop, Reginald Tomlinson, and John Adams. Flambé glazes make use of metallic oxides, usually iron or copper, fired to temperatures up to 1500º C in a flame-burning kiln. At a critical moment, the air feeding the flame is shut off, and the flame, seeking oxygen for combustion, combines with oxygen in the glaze oxides, reducing the amount of oxygen they contain and changing their colour. The potter manages the process, which is not entirely predictable, to produce reds, purples, blues, lilacs and greens. Frederic Rhead, a contemporary writer, said of Moore in 1906, He is master of all the resources of the potter’s craft, and his work alone shows Staffordshire still capable of coping with the potters of France. It is technically triumphant, and it is quite delightful (though in a sense disappointing) to find in his show-room a case of pottery – perfect in colour and artistic feeling – which he will not sell, but prefers to retain for mere pride in its accomplishment. Moore exhibited internationally and received many awards for his ceramics. In 1910, a fire at the Brussels Exhibition destroyed much of his work. He closed the business at Wolfe Street in 1915 but continued to work as a ceramic consultant. He died in 1935. There is a portrait of him by Oswald Birley in the Potteries Museum and Art Gallery. Height: 3 inches or 7.5 cm. Length: 2.75 inches or 7 cm. Depth: 3 inches or 7.5 cm. Weight: 2.9 oz or 84.6 grams. This highly sought-after early flambé rabbit would make a superb gift and solid future investment. SUPERB RARE EARLY ROBERT MOUSEMAN THOMPSON TEA TRAY WITH 2 SIGNATURE MICE 1940's
RARE EARLY ROBERT MOUSEMAN THOMPSON TEA / DRINKS TRAY WITH 2 SIGNATURE MICE – 1940s. A superb hand carved Robert’Mouseman’ Thompson tea tray, dating to the 1940s. These rectangular shaped trays are very highly sought after by collectors as they are quite rare to the market, normally they are kidney shaped. It has 2 well carved early signature mice either end of the tray. It is a beautiful dark oak colour with wonderful patina. It has also been hand adzed to the top as well as all around the rim. It is in very good condition with just some minor wear to the rim (please see pictures) and some water staining to the top and bottom. Other than that, it just has wear consistent with the age of the piece, which is to be expected as it is now approximately 80 years old. A lot of these early trays are heavily stained and warped due to drinks spillages. This one is in nice condition, a good example. It measures 55.5 cm (including mice handles) x 31.2 cm. Buyers are welcome to collect, I live just a few miles north of Durham. I have quite a few Mouseman pieces for sale, including a bespoke lamp, and an early stool – please see my other items.

Antique Very Early and Rare Silver Inkwell Superb London 1778 William Plumber
A Georgian silver desk stand, with two capped glass inkwells and a central pen holder with beaded decoration, raised on ball and claw feet, London 1778, maker William Plumber. Antique Victorian Silver Inkwell Superb. This outstanding Georgian solid silver inkwell will make an impressive addition to your desk, with its detailed pretty and delicate floral engravings throughout, a fantastic quality base which holds 2 glass inkwells in excellent condition as well as a prettily decorated candle holder. Would make a great addition to your desk or collection! Hallmarked to the underside of the stand for London 1778 by William Plummer. The three pierced silver bottle holders are each part hallmarked with the lion passant. The bottle caps and collars are unmarked. In excellent condition with light surface wear commensurate with age. There is no glass damage and the bottles would appear to be original and matching. A little clouding of the silver on the inkstand base. Approximate hallmarked silver weight is 6.2 troy ounces. Approximate total weight is 1.264 kilos. Approximate dimensions are 18 cm length, 13cm width and. This item displays beautifully but there is a obvious repair to on of the leg which looks as though it has been done a very long time ago. Iam sure this could be made tidier by a professional but I think it just adds to the charm of the piece and I have reflected this damage in the asking price. Both glass inkwells are 100 % original and in superb condition for their age. This lovely item can be used exactly as intended over 244 years ago. I really don’t want to sell this but my wife has pulled rank and I want it to go to someone who will display it and appreciate its beauty. This would make a beautiful present or indulgent treat. If you have a favourite pen like me it’s a perfect way to have it on display. Us serious collectors have spent a fortune on pens but who has a more characterful charming way to show them off. Please view all my photographs carefully as these are as much part of the description as the writing. If you wish me to send you any other picture or details feel free to ask. If you want spotless then the high street is for you, but if you want a great antique that will appreciate in price with age then this is for you. You don’t get this by messing people about. Iam a trusted honest reliable EBAYer. If you have any questions feel free to ask. Please look at all my other great items I have for sale. I will post worldwide but you have to contact me to agree postal costs. SUPERB QUALITY & CONDITION EARLY RARE LARGE GEORGIAN SNUFF / TOBACCO BOX c. 1780
SUPERB QUALITY & CONDITION EARLY RARE LARGE GEORGIAN SNUFF / TOBACCO BOX c. SUPERB QUALITY AND CONDITION EARLY & RARE ENGLISH GEORGIAN. PEROIOD LARGE OVAL SILVER SNUFF / TOBACCO BOX c. This is an Antique, 18th Century, handmade tobacco / snuff box; intended to keep loose pipe tobacco or ground snuff tobacco fresh and to maintain the tobacco’s qualities and aroma. This piece is 2 centuries + old, and dates to the late 1700’s. This large sized snuff / tobacco box that has a very tight seal and could have been pocket carried; or could also have been used at home, in an office, or business. Oval is 4″ long x 2 3/4″ wide x 1 3/16 tall. Weight is 3.1ounces or 87 grams. The Artistry and Craftsmanship, combined with the select materials demonstrates this was an expensive piece; intended for a Wealthy Gentleman of Means. The fact this piece has a prominent overlaid silver oval escutcheon hand engraved in the Old English style with the initials T over H, with tiny dot accents and stylized border, suggests this may have been a presentation piece as was common for the period. This box has all the characteristics of an 18th C. Period oval shape, silver construction, select slightly domed antique top and bottom, period style escutcheon hand engraved in an Old English style, and thin channeled silver ribs to the top and base. As in many 18th Century pieces, this unmarked piece was made in Old England. Being unmarked suggests it is a Provincial piece, i. Made by one of the many small workshops outside the main metropolitan arears, such as London. The oval base is a simple strap of silver (perhaps coin silver) soldered at one point and finely finished. The bottom of the base has a thin strap with 2 groves. The very bottom is slightly peened inward to create a thin lip to secure the domed bottom and is held in place on the top inside by an oval silver wire. The top is fashioned, en suite, but with a 3 grooved strap, soldered together that is hard to find, with a top lip and inside silver wire. This top is soldered to a thin 3/16 lip that fits securely outside around the top edge of the base. The top fits the base only one way, which is evident in that it creates an exceptionally tight fit. By gently squeezing the outer rims of the top and base together to seat the top onto the base, this creates a very tight fit; and requires careful 2 handed prying to the top border lip to pull the 2 tight pieces apart slowly and carefully. This tight fit of the exceptional craftsmanship combined with light period usage, being “put up” and stored properly, attests to the current superb condition overall of this piece. There are traces of dark naturally occurring patina in the silver protected areas between the thin grooves. By rotating the top in the light, one can see the extremely fine random patterns of the top material. The top and bottom material can be enhanced with a thin coat of mineral oil, and buffed gently to create shiny, polished appearance if desired. The silver is in remarkable condition, with no dents or dings to the side strap. As is expected, there are a very few spots where the thin silver edged holding the top and bottom panels have very tiny, hard to see dints to the edge, but can be see with a jeweler’s loupe; and two minuscule dings to the bottom border of the silver that don’t show unless you turn the piece over and see these tiny, hard to notice dints. Use this fine box as a paperweight, desk accessory, decorative, jewelry, keepsake, trinket, tobacco, snuff, pipe smoking or Tobacciana collection or conversation piece; or could still be used today for its original purpose for snuff or tobacco. Exceptions include holidays, power outages, and evacuations. Claims such as doesn’t match description or photos, doesn’t seem authentic, Doesn’t fit, Wrong item sent, Missing parts or pieces, Doesn’t work or defective, Arrived damaged.
