Cartier Tortue Early pre war watch / platinum / antique / rare
Posted by admin On October 1, 2024
Here we have an extremely rare Cartier Tortue wristwatch. This is a remarkable Cartier example made in platinum. From research the watch itself is circa 1915. It has a stunning manual winding movement signed Cartier Paris. Inside the caseback there are various watchmakers markings, stamped numbers and signed ewc which indicates european watch company. The details are exceptional especially the shape of the case and the beautiful ruby red cabochon which really does blend amazingly well with the polished and brushed parts of the tortue case. The crystal is perfect along with the dial. The original brequet blued hands really make the difference. The deployment folding clasp is also platinum. The features you see on this watch are still being used in Cartier watches today so it is amazing to see one of the earliest examples showcasing the amazing details. There are two hallmarks on the watch caseback and side of the case and they are french dogs head which is a french hallmark for platinum from 1912. The watch has spent the last year in Cartier headquarters switzerland undergoing some subtle cosmetic servicing by their select finest watchmakers who are assigned to only work on early fine Cartier watches. The watch will come with the invoice. Overall if you are looking for a very early Cartier watch that nobody else owns then this is the watch for you. There is alot of excitement around the Cartier Tortue models again recently and this is due to Cartier releasing new Tortue watches at the watches and wonders event in Switzerland. The watch does work but i would advise a movement service in the future. Dimensions of the watch will follow shortly. Watch has had the serial numbers inspected and searched on watch register and is clear which means it is not classed as stolen. The Cartier Tortue has appeared in the brands’ repertoire for over a century after Louis Cartier first designed the piece in 1912. French for turtle, the Tortue has a gently curved case and traditionally was a time-only piece. This current watch is an excellent example of an early Tortue from Circa 1915 and despite being over 100 years old is still a very wearable and contemporary looking piece. This is one of the earliest Cartier Tortue watches we have seen and the inside case back is stamped E. C for European Watch Company. It is a beautifully preserved example of an early wristwatch and as elegant today as when it was first created. Please also note that it is an investment watch and the value will only increase in the future.
