Early 20th century Navajo Native Ame ri can hand woven, vegetable dyed fiber wool rugs, with sacred tribal hieroglyphic symbols. 18 ½” Height x 18″ Width. Offered for your review and consideration is this estate fresh and 100% untouched and unadulterated, small, diminutive 18″ x 18″ square, vegetable dyed, 100% wool, hand woven Navajo antique rug, tapestry or horse saddle mat. This magnificent early 20th century antique rug was produced by Navajo Native Ame ri can indigenous tribal hands, most likely in the vast four corner region of what’s now Arizona, New Mexico, Utah and Colorado. The small mat is comprised of rich sepia brown colors of its jagged interior border, resembling the diagonal configurations also found in antique Navajo’eye dazzler’ hand woven, wool rugs produced in the same period as this magnificent, diminutive gem and superb example of early 20th century period Navajo wool rug weaving. The sepia brown jagged edges are interwoven with creamy white. The center of the rug features an orange red square, upon which is woven the Navajo sacred tribal symbol of the’Whirling Logs’ realized in deep mint green and creamy white. The symbol is an ancient, indigenous, Native Ame ri can Navajo tribal one and not a later, co-opted, European fascist one. From gifted Navajo tribal hands long ago. Good to Very Good overall antique condition. Two corner wool tassels have broken away and are now absent.
