Extremely Rare Early Chinese Jade Stamp Featuring A Qilin

Extremely Rare Early Chinese Jade Stamp Featuring A Qilin
Qilin Mythical Creature Jade Stamp. Extra fine and extremely rare example of an early Chinese Jade stamp with a classic Qilin, or horned ridged backed scaled unicorn sitting atop. This example has a distinct segmented tapering horn that folds back from its forehead. Made of well patinated’Chicken Bone’ Jade. The carving on the bottom of the stamp is a mystery. The Qilin is known as a good omen thought to occasion prosperity or serenity. In legend, the Qilin first appeared in the 5th Century B. It is said that Emperor Wu of Han captured one in 122 B. From the weathered and aged surface appearance we believe this to be an example from the period. There are age cracks in the base that are completely stable and show no signs of repair. Some old red ink is embedded in the cracks and elsewhere on the stamp. It has been inspected by a geologist employing 100X magnification and it was determined that the stamp is in a condition completely consistent with and resultant of known natural geologic weathering and aging principles. Well patinated light gray/brown’Chicken Bone’ Jade. 3cm Tall x 2.8cm Square. __________________________________________________ Jackson’s On Main sells high quality art and antiquities at excellent prices from both our extensive collection and from the private collections of our clients and various estates. Rare Very Large Early 19th C Chinese Shiwan Glazed Mudman Woman Figure
Very rare and large Chinese 19th C. Shiwan-glazed mudman woman lady figure, a massive 65 cm or 25 inches in height, wearing a turquoise-glazed robe with streaks of emerald green, blood red and purple over a cream-tone white dress, with a long shawl of the same creamy colour wrapping the shoulders, with the extremities reaching the yellow ochre base or plinth. Her face unglazed and of a dark-sepia tone (please note the same treatment of the right-hand thumb emerging from the sleeve) crowned by an elaborate headdress of ochre-dark brown colour terminating in a cross-shaped bun on the back of the head. PLEASE NOTE: real colours are more brilliant and intense than in the photographs. The statue appears to be in overall very good condition, and all I can see is a small chip on both the extremities of the shawl (where they touch the plinth), a minor chip on one of the holes around the base (the fissure under it seems to be just a kiln flaw), a possible repair on one of those ends, and possibly some minor restorations around the headdress like the tip of the crown (please see the pictures). Note the pierced earlobes and the holes around the head (behind the crown) for possible attachments. It comes with its original certificate, issued by King Arts Company of Hong Kong in April 1962 and signed by the Company’s manager, Mr King. It is the original document and not a copy, and it bears the stamped and numbered photo of the object. Provenance: found in an Italian private collection, it was acquired with other important Chinese artefacts in Hong Kong in 1962, by the uncle of the previous owner. It is absolutely fresh to the market. I will be more accurate once the destination is known, so please wait for the correct invoice before paying. Otherwise it will be at your own risk. Rare 18th Early 19th Century Chinese Carved Sliding Top Tangram Puzzle Box
FINE QUALITY RARE 18TH EARLY 19TH CENTURY CHINESE CARVED SLIDING TOP TANGRAM PUZZLE BOX. This is a very Rare late 18th early 19th Century Chinese tangram puzzle box, late 18th early 19th century, i would estimate a date of circa 1800. Making this rare puzzle box over 200 years old. This rare puzzle box has a sliding lid carved with five figures and pagodas with flowering shrubs in a `bamboo` frame. There are rural scenes carved around the sides of the box and inside on the bottom you will see it is carved with three figures and pagodas with flowering shrubs again, the quality of the craftsmanship is superb, there are no puzzle piece with this box, this would have once belonged to a very wealthy 18th Century Gentleman many years ago when times were so very different, if this box could talk i can just imagine what fascinating stories it could tell, this snuff box is so very tactile and once held it has the most wonderful feel. This will add something very special to any collection, my photos dont do it justice. The condition is nice with no actual damage to the carving, though it appears the base my have come away and been put back on as there are tiny gaps to the edging, it is in need of a clean, but then it is over 200 years old and such a rare object. 2.5 inches by 2.5 inches and 2 cm height. It is lovely with no actual damage to the carving, though it appears the base my have come away and been put back on as there are tiny gaps to the edging, it is in need of a clean, but then it is over 200 years old and such a rare object. All Antique silver items will show some signs of wear, which only adds to the history of the object….. Track Page Views With. Auctiva’s FREE Counter.
