Rare Antique Children Carousel Bear, Germany early 20th Century
Rare Antique Children Carousel Bear, Germany early 20th Century. A wooden carved children’s carousel bear decorated with polychrome colors, made in Germany around 1920. Original unrestored condition, partially repainted, traces of use according to the old age, some minor imperfections. A great addition to any sophisticated interior decoration. The first carousel horses were created in the 18th century for the entertainment of aristocrats. The enthusiasm spread to broad sections of the population and the Vienna Prater was opened with a carousel in 1766. Germany developed into a center of carousel construction. Famous manufacturers included Friedrich Heyn, Hermann Thümmel, Karl Müller and Fritz Botmann. The artfully carved horses and classic carriages were supplemented with exotic animals such as lions, tigers, giraffes, zebras and elephants. Pioneers of the first generation of showmen in the United States were Gustav A. Loof and Frank Hrubetz, who designed and constructed great rides. The world wars of the 20th century meant the end of carousel art. Many originals were destroyed and replaced by plastic copies. Artfour is an owner-operated trading company dealing in Black Forest woodcarvings, antler furniture and an impressive variety of unique decorative items. Our antiques are displayed in a 100 years old barn in southern Germany, which we have remodeled ourselves. Antique pieces have been our passion since the 1980s. This qualifies us as your preferred partner for Black Forest and antique art. Width: 9.84 inches height: 29.53 inches lenght: 37.40 inches. All of our items are in very good condition. They have been utilised and therefore may show age-related traces of usage. If not mentioned in the item description, they do not have defects like cracks or deep scratches. Our long lasting experience in international trade of antique parts allows us to obtain a great knowledge in packaging ambitious antique parts. Each part is different and must be handled individually, it means in effect no standard materials can be used. At artfour we have a well-equipped store of various materials for building frames and protections while bubble foil, double boxing, styrofoam chips and robust cardbord boxes are standard features in our packaging process.
